Last time we were out, I noticed that one of the vinyl windows is separating from its zipper at a top corner. Not good, as this means we can t seal up. While it is under the awning, I m afraid it will come apart more and become a problem.

Any good fixes? It s only a little over a year old, so the dealer might be able to do something, but does anyone know what they have in their bag of tricks? The bummer is that it looks as if the only way to replace this would be to do the entire side. Yuck.

 Thoughts?

springer02Well I d first see about any warranty fix.
If there nothing there IMO I d see how long the thread break area was. If it was short I d get out some monofiliment line and a good size needle and sew it back up.
If it looks like a major job try looking in the yellow pages under boat cover or marine upholstry. It s easy to remove the canvas and if it s just a stitch job it won t cost and arm and a leg. Ask for UV resistant thread.

springer02I had a similar problem where the vinyl window actually tore where the seam line had perforated it. [:@] I used a water bed repair kit (a swimming pool kit will work just the same) to repair the vinyl and then restitched to the patch.  Has held for a year so far [:D]

 springer02Dave,

I did that very same thing trying to zip up our big window on our last trip.  The stitching was just like a perforation and the window vyinyl very neatly ripped at the stitching in the corner.  Since our camper is only a little over a year old, we took it to our dealer, who took out the whole panel and shipped it back to Coleman who will replace the whole thing.  My suggestion is that if you re still under warranty, take it to your dealer and have it replaced.  Our dealer said it takes about a month to get it back, so we just timed it for between trips.

 HTH!

springer02Talked to the dealer this week. They ll order a new canvas piece under warranty (5 years) and will install it when we have a few days we won t be using it.

In the meantime, they suggested a safety pin or two. Dove s in Harrisonburg, Va., comes through again. Good folks.

When we owned our Coleman Camper  we also went to Dove camper sales in Harrisonburg.  We also feel they are the best.
