Pequea Creek Campgound is near the Susquehanna Rive in Lancaster County PA.
Has anyone been here? Did a search here and came up empty.

Saw some pics on a personal web site and looks like someplace I would like to go to and they have a group/rally section with a pavillion.

SheBantamI knew that Lancaster Cty is in PA, but for some reason when I think Susquehanna, I think I 95/rt 40. in MD. Thanks for showing me the error of my ways...

Has anyone been there? I saw pics and see that there is tubing (not for me), one person tells me it was nice there. I am looking for a campground that Raymond will be happy at, closer to home than RJ Ranch (he really liked the site we had there)

SheBantamJust got back, this campround has some serious pluses and minuses.

 Pluses:
Quiet, at least in the lower section.
 scenic area
 creek for tubing.
 Managers try to please.
 Large sites in TT section
 Cable TV in TT section

 Minuses
Creek and lower campsites near PA 423
Dead Zone for Cell phone signals
 Pit toilets for lower level
Showers were 50 cents for 7 minutes and flush toilets up a long steep hill
Most seasonals were in the upper level

We got there about 4:00 the traffic was terrible, the campground routed us up DE/PA 41 to PA 741. there was construction up around Gap then again around Lampeter. PA 324 is a windy road, as I got near the campground, there was a sign:
 9% grade,
not only was it 9% but it was a curvy 9%. Then in the middle of the down grade, was another sign, Pequea (pronounced peck-way) Campground left 500 feet.  And it was truely a left, a nasty steep left. Then to the covered bridge where you could not see if anyone was in it, until you were in it. Then a sharp left to the campground, so sharp, they made a left turn traffoc type circe for the big rigs, but my 21  was not too big to make the turn.

I came up with the boys, Raymond was to come up later. It started to rain, I started worrying, as Raymond was not there. I could not get a signal on the cell. The neighbors tols ne to go up to the Frogtown bar ane I could get a sgnal there. So I hopped in the truck and headded out.  Remember that first turn off the highway?? Well that is even worse trying to turn right when it was wet, a truck stopped on the highway flashed to let me out, I spun tires, and knew I could not make that right spinning the way I was, so I made the left, spinning unil I finally got traction. Went down the road and this little gray Corolla with shinny hubcaps passed me...I think that was Raymond...found the boat ramp tho the susquehanna and turned around, as I passed the picnic area and could see the office, there was the same Corolla with the shinny (tacky) hub caps, I got back in the campground, sure enough that was Raymond, he had passed the entrance and also turned around.

We went out this AM to find the " back way"  that they have to route the big rigs through. I went home a different way, I went PA 272 all the way to US 1 to PA 41 to DE 41 to home. Somehow, though Raymond and the boys lost me...I was ahead of them and they got further and further behind. I got home, opened the gates, pulled and disconnected the camper and pulled the truck up front when they drove up, Raymond said that he " planned "  it that way.

SheBantamSo, was that a good report or bad?  It sounds like getting to the place was a nightmare, but how were the sites?  I am heading there this weekend.  Are they level?  We are in sites 87 & 88 (I think).  They are right near the creek, but also looks like they are near the road.  How is the noise from the road?

Sorry, it s just that it was my job to find a campsite, and I picked this one.  I certainly don t want it to be a miserable trip...

Also, we were hoping to go tubing.  Was the creek high enough?

 Thanks,
 Chris

SheBantamWe has site 22 water/electric/cable, I am not sure if there is cable on that end and the sites are some smaller than the ones we were in.

Our site fit the F150, Corolla, Bantam B-21 and an 8 person 3 room tent. There was pleny of room for a campfire and if I ahd wanted, the screened room.

You will be thrilled with the toilet facilities on the lower level, they are pit toilets, there is running water to the sinks, considering the heat and the pit toilets, there was not much smell.  The flush toilets and showers are up the hill...the kind of hill that you need a car to go to the bathroom.

All in all the campground is nice, there is some noise from the road, motor cycles, but that is not all night. This is a 2 lane that is used mostly for local access and access to the marina/boat ramp in Pequea.

Not sure where you are coming from, but if you are traveling north towards Lancaster on 272, I suggest that you take Pennsey Road on the left, that road goes to 324, it is about 5 miles above Buck.

The dump station is really on the " wrong"  side of the road when dumping a trailer with holding tanks, I had to park the truck and trailer the wrong way. next time I will take my tote tank.

I really did not want to go home, we had sort of creek side, though we could not see the creek unless we went on the next site.

Bring your own tubes, they do not have any, nor did I See any air, have your air pump with you. I have (had, they boys broke it) a DC minicompressor that ran off the cigarette lighter, got the car tubes at Walmart for $9.99. They also found an air matress that I have been arrying around for several years, blew that up and one of them rode that down.

They can tube from the Covered Bridge to the campground, I do not recommend any further as access is limited to the creek and it flows out into the Susquehanna about a mile down the road.

I wish I could join you as once I was there, the campground is OK, not great, no game room (hence why we took the PS2) but I would go back.  This is the type campground Raymond and I liked, a little noise from the road occasionally, nice sizes sites in the section we were in, Far enough out that the hustle and bustle of Lancaster was way off (12 miles or so), but close enough we could get what we needed. The comfort stations could have been a little cleaner (the typical camping stuff like bugs and webs), shower area up the hill seemed cleaner, also a laundrymat with the bath house up the hill.

Take water! the water tasted like Chlorine, we had to go out to buy water for Coffee and noodles (the other boy eats little but potatoes(no onions in  em) and Ramen noodles, hamburgers and american cheese). We had frozen the little bottles for ice then drinking water but did not have enough plain water for cooking.

SheBantamWell, I ll add my $.02 as we camped there this weekend.  The trip there was sort of funny.  We came from the south and ended up on River Rd.  Oh my, that was a hoot.  This place is really in hill country.  And River Rd makes some weird turns.

Anyway, we didn t get there until way later than I wanted too (9:30).  So setup was in the dark... very dark.  We had site 55, and the people we went with had site 53 (pull through).  This site was near the top of the hill, so walking to the bathrooms (clean) and showers (clean) was not bad at all.  The sites are nice, wooded sites that are not close together.  That was a first for me as I ve only camped twice before.  The only problem was that the water and electric (and cable) were on the wrong side of the trailer.  I also had to purchase another 50  of white water hose because the water hookup was so far away.  The faucets on the water hookups are also those spring-loaded variety.  So, either you bring a bungee, or be lucky enough to find one that is broken and will stay on all of the time.

As I noted, the bathroom and showers were pretty clean (no smell at all).  The park was very quiet.  We went tubing on Saturday and that was fun.  Same thing (from covered bridge to takeout at the office/camp store).  Each run took us about 25 mins.  Also went fishing on Sat and Sun.

I do agree that getting into and out of the campground off of 324 was a bit harrowing.  The turn is about almost a u-turn.  And getting out, it is a blind turn, so you look, pray, go.

All in all, I liked this place.  I would go back.  I wish that they would have had shuttles of some sort to the covered bridge for tubing as one person was always left out.  I guess we could have walked, but the walk up that hill with the tubes was bad enough.

So, out of 10, I d say it s a 6 or 7.  It is quiet, and the sites are pretty private up on the hill.  The tubing and the creek are a nice benefit.

SheBantamChris, the sites down by the dump station have the connections on the right side. Granted, it is a pit toilet down there, it is not too bad. It is also a shorter walk to the bridge. If you want a shower, you do have to walk/drive up the hill.

If you go again, let me know, I d be game and since I do not tube, I could run " shuttle service" . I took a bad spill last year in Little River at the PUT/SEPUC rally in Townsend TN, came out bloodied, bruised and lost my no-line bifocals. I swore off tubing after that...

We had a lot of room on our campsite. The ones past the office are much tighter, but then again, there is a good riverview there.
