I just called to make reservations to Umbagog CG in New Hampshire. She said that the largest site is 24  and our Utah is 25 . Is there a site  that could accomodate our camper for those that have been there. Of course it depends on the availability. Sounds like the electricity is out and there is no power but there is water so a few people have cancelled. We are trying for the 24th of July. Thanks for any info you can provide. I printed a map of the cg.

You are going to one of my favorite campgrounds.

I am heading back up there on Aug 5 for another few days.

If you do not mind the sun, any of the sites numbered with 1 will do.  Number 1 actually has some trees for shade but 1a etc do not have much in the way of shade.

My favorite is number one.  It is the first one and it is close to the bathrooms and a nice view of the sunset.  Also, easy to keep an eye on the kids if they are on or near the beach.

They had a major power problem so there is no electricity at the sites.  They also reduced the rates to $20 for the better sites.

My Mesa opens to 25 feet and I have never had a problem.

There are some wooded or shaded sites also that should be able to accommodate your popup.

 Have a great time.

I had site 5 one time.  It is big enough for your camper and very well shaded.

Also not that far a walk to the bathroom.

 Have fun and enjoy.

Looking forward to your impression of the place.

PI

 PIGene,
Thanks, I feel a whole lot better. I was getting less concerned about the size of the site because of the feedback but I was also concerned about being out in the sun. I mind the heat. Sounds like it will do just fine. It also sounds like there will be rain for most of this week. As long as it doesn t rain while we are up there. It is a joke in our neighborhood that when we leave to go camping it is definately going to rain because it has for the 3 weekends we were gone. We have been home and it has been beautiful. Now they are all preparing for rain again....we warned them ![:)]

PIJeanne, As I emailed, we just got back from Umbagog today. We had site 01d this time, usually I try and get 42 or 43, but 01d was pretty decent! It s one of our two favorite campgrounds and we hope to get back there in October although then it will be in one of their cabins!
Long range forecast says you may have rain on Thursday but Friday through Sunday are looking pretty good. Who knows, weathermen are wrong so much, maybe it will be nice all the time you are there! I hope so.
Say hi to Stan for us! He s a great guy with a very dry sense of humor! Have fun!

PIWell, we are back from umbagog and it is definitely a keeper. I thought site #2 would have been great....maybe next year. The kayaking was great. Drove the logging roads a lot. Wish I was there now !!!

Nope, didn t work!! I m still here taking a short break from work!!

PI

PIGeneF, Hope you have a great time.
Gary, I wish I was there again too. Was planning to go cmaping somewhere this weekend but with this weather I decided not to. The Rain doesn t bother me so much any more but it is the humidity. I don t do well in this stuff and with no air conditioner in the camper I ll stay home with my air.
How cold does it have to be in the fall for you to stop camping?

PIHi Jeanne, We re going to be one of those cars stuck in traffic, trying to get over Bourne Bridge to the Cape this weekend!!! Not camping, visiting my Brother and SIL. Hopefully we ll get to kayak Waquit Bay between raindrops, otherwise we ll be giving our kayaks a 5 hour ride one way!!!
Last year we went to Umbagog Lake State Park over Columbus Day, but stayed in a cabin. After Labor Day the minimum rentals on the cabins go from 7 days to 3 days.
The latest we ve stayed in the camper was the end of September a couple years ago. We were working the sponsorship tables for Compassion International at Teen Mania in Amherst, MA and stayed at Pine Acres CG in Oakham, Ma. It was COLD that weekend! The furnace ran so much the first night that I was afraid we d run out of propane the second night so I used an electric ceramic disk heater. I think I could camp pretty easily through October, but the cold bothers my wife and we get so busy with Sunday School (She s Superintendent) and Youth Group (we re the leaders) that it s almost impossible to get a whole weekend away at that time.

PIJust got back from Umbagog and we had plenty of rain but most of the time it was showers.

Of course we were near the Eagle s nest in our kayaks when we managed to weather out three showers.  We did get a little wet and the kayaks took on a little water.

Even caught a nice bass while kayaking and then a decent rainbow trout in the river the next day.

Don t think we will be going back up there again this year but we are heading up to Nova Scotia on Friday for a week.

Gary, we hit the National Wildlife Center on Route 16 and got some good info about kayaking in the wildlife area.  We took about a 3 hour trip.

Also heard that they are now down to about 15 nesting loon pairs from a high or 31.  They do not know why the loons are not nesting and they have found three dead ones.

They also had a couple of groups come in to the base camp in a bit of a hurry and a little late at night.  Seems like a bear liked their food.  Of course having put the food in a hammock for one group and the the other group just leaving the food around might have had something to do with it.

Story goes that one counselor in a group, spent 45 minutes under a tarp on a picnic table feeling the bear s presence and listening to him eating the food close by.

Some people just don t know any better.

PI

 PIGeneF,
Glad to year you had a nice time. I would love to make another trip up there before snow flies. What kind of info was there about kayaking the wildlife area? Keep your paddles handy ????[:D] Was it very humid up there. We found that with the breeze of the lake it wasn t bad at all but then again we didn t have this stuff.

 garym053Gary,
We have camped at the Bourne Scenic Park before and liked it.You do hear a bit of highway noise but we were right next to the canal. There was the fence between us. In the morning we carried our coffee and chairs down the stairs and sat just off the bike path. We have, as a group, biked the canal. It is best to go into the wind while you are still fresh. The day we went though, was very windy and it was very difficult getting anywhere against the wind. We did have fun though. The spray from the water would sting our legs like sand. We were talking about going back there again soon. We enjoy visiting the Cape in the Spring or Fall...less crowding.

 PIHi GeneF & Jeanne!
Jeanne, I can scan and email some of the info I picked up at the Wildlife center if you d like. Or snail mail! I may have forgotten to mention it to you as we just visited it for the first time when we were there a few days before you. They have a bunch of handouts and good info on wildlife, especially birding in the area!
GeneF, too bad about the rain, although sounds like you managed to get in plenty of fun stuff! I had heard about the Loon decline from the VT Biologist that I do volunteer work for. We did see more Loon this year than last but only 2 chicks this year!
I wasn t camping on the Cape this weekend, I was at my brothers place and we paddled on one of the bays. Paddled by a bunch of cute " camps"  with about 10 bedrooms each!!!
