This is a test to see if I can get a post on the forum without my computer freezing up.  Since about the first of the year (when the new forum came on line), every time I try to type a post/reply I get about 2 or 3 lines typed and then my computer freezes.  I ve used Netscape 4.X and then went to NS 7.0, still freezes.  What I finally started doing was typing my post/reply on Word then copying it then pasting it to the forum post/reply.  That has been the only way I could get it done.
Also had freezes when scrolling down reading the threads.  Sometimes happens on stuff other than the forum, but not very often.  (Guess that s because I spend most of my computer time on the forum!)

This evening my son-in-law was over and said he had the same problem on his PC (except he isn t on the forum) and that he downloaded all " Windows Updates"  and upgraded Netscape to the new 7.1 and that seemed to solve his problem.  So I did that.  Took about two hours to get it all done.  Then with high hopes I came to the forum and started typing this post.  Didn t work!!  About three lines and then every thing froze again.  Now I m back to typing stuff on Word and pasting it to the forum.  Aaaarrrhhhhhhhhh!   [:@]

I ve run Disk Cleanup, Disk Defragmenter, Virus Scan, etc., etc., but nothing helps.

 Any suggestions?

WayfarerMy computer was also freezing, I took it to Best Buy Service Dept, they did a tune-up. My system performance went from 54% to 94%. This was after I downloaded all the updates too. They went into the registers of the computer and deleted a bunch of power robbing stuff (?), wouldn t tell me exactly what they did, But did tell me it s not a software program that I could buy and run myself. Now it runs faster, and I can run MSN8, which I couldn t before. It was worth the $29.99! You may want to consider something similar.

WayfarerSounds like they removed programs that automaticly start when you turn your computer on. If you have a lot of icons in the toolbar at the bottom right of your desktop that may be your problem. Here is a link to a website that may help but be careful and follow their directions closely.

Please take a full backup before messing with your machine this way.

That s what I thought, If they did, I don t know what they were. I ve never had a lot of programs running, just a mixer, and HP cd writer. I don t even have a calendar reminder running.

Yup, I did. My ISP wanted me to switch Windows programs, or reformat. I didn t want to do either. It s almost cheaper to buy a new CPU than a new windows program, even the update is $100. But it works better now.

WayfarerHave you checked your system for trackers (spyware), they can bog down your system while on line and cause freezes. I use SPyBot Search and Destroy, It has many other features and backs up when thing are done that include the registry.
It has a nice cookie control , you can select cookies you want to keep with each scan and delete the rest in one easy step. This is  freeware and can be found at

So what does this prove?

birol

WayfarerShe is saying, besically, if you don t windows inside and outside and feel comfortable that you can rebuild it without even thinking about it, do not run regedit.

Disclaimer ...... in case somebody runs it and messes up their system, she is not responsible. I suggest not to run it .......

I mess with it, but I take backups .....
