Channel 3 News out of Burlington, VT ran a story last week that reservations were coming in in record numbers and that some weekends at some state parks were already filled! And just a week after they started taking reservations!!!
Just wanted to warn my friends here on ARVEE that if you are planning on camping at a state park in Vermont, don t procrastinate! Make those calls today!

garym053Hi Gary, Just yesterday, I made a reservation for July 3-7 at Lake Carmi.  I thought that the prime sites would be taken, which they were, BUT, we did get a site in section A.  I was really surprised that so few sites were available. Anyway, we hope to visit with all our old neighbors, (we used to live near Enosburg Falls), and also check out all the streams in northern Vermont!
 Can t wait!!!![:D]

garym053Glad you got in, Sue! They DID say that if the campers were flexible here were spaces that could be filled. Lake Carmi was one of the ones mentioned as getting full fast!
Kathy, please, by all means try out a Vermont State Park!! Even if you have kids that feel the need to be entertained. Our grandkids come from New Jersey and Phoenix, Arizona and they love it, even without planned activities. We take them out in a canoe or our kayaks, go for hikes, listen to and watch the ducks and Loons!

garym053Gary- well, entertainment, to my kids, is trekking through the woods on their mountain bikes (they also love Vermont fire roads). They will also float around in an inner tube all day on a nice cool stream.

We ended up at a private cg in VT. this year because we wanted a site right on the White River. But we are definitely looking to do some VT. state parks as well.

garym053Kathy, Sounds like your family knows how to be entertained at state parks! I hope to get to NY and try a park or two there this Summer! Hopefully in the Saranac Lake area. The state camprounds within Groton State Forest, that is Ricker Pond CG, Stillwater CG, Big Deer CG and New Discovery CG are all on or near an old railroad bed that s been coverted to a multi-use trail. We have biked nearly 20 miles round trip and haven t begun to see it all! We camp at Ricker which is the smaller, quieter, more Southerly of the CG s listed. The trail goes right through it on its way North.
