I have posted this on a couple of other boards yesterday when I could not get in here, but  have yet to get a real good answer.  i know you folks will not let me down.
I need to get new tires for my TV.  The current size is P255/65r15 s which are ridicuously expensive with horrible wear ratings.  My wheel size is 15x8.  Can I mount P235/75r15 tires on those wheels and if I do so what will it do to handling or other ramifications.

 GarrettGarrett,

If i am not mistaking, each tire company/store has a book that tell you what the size varance can be. Have you checked?

GarrettStandard tire on this truck is P215/75r15 mine has the optional P255/65r15 so that would make a P23/75r15 right in the middle, but I do not know how it will work to mount them on my existing rims and it would defeat mypurpose tohave to buy new rims.

GarrettSince your P255/65R15 were mounted on 8 inch rims and you said they showed heavy center wear with the correct tire pressure (remember correct on P series tires doesn t mean the max sidewall pressure) a larger aspect tire such as a 70 series would IMHO make sense.
CHeck with a tire store for diameter s and manufacturer suggested rim widths.

GarrettOn my truck I did away with the " metric"  tires. In the past I had trouble with sidewall stiffness even unloaded. It had P235/75r15s and it now has 29 x 9.5 x 15s, which are actuall truck tires not P series passenger car tires. It roughened up the ride a little bit but its a truck it supposed to ride like a truck not a car. If anyone is wondering who decided the United States should convert to the metric system blame President Johnson, no not LBJ. Andrew Johnson [:@], Lincolns vice president.

That s actually not true. 75 series tires are not as wide as 65 series ones are, so the 215/235/255 sizing comparison your making is not an apples-to-apples comparison because the widths of the tires differ.

To simplify things lets just say that when you reduce the middle number you have to raise the first number in order to retain the same overall diameter. A 235/75/15 would be about the same height as a 255/65/15, but it wouldn t be quite as wide. The 215/75/15 is one size smaller (in height) then a 235/75/15.

So, to answer your question... yes, the 235/75/15 would fit comfortably on an 8"  rim, and would be similar in height to what you currently have.
