I backed up the PU by myself!....accurately!!! And, I didn t hit anything.[:)][:D]  The 1st time was when I dropped off the PU at a trailer hitch place (had a friction sway bar installed). Only had to pull up once, then parked that puppy exactly where I was instructed to do so. Yesterday, I brought the PU home & backed into our driveway --a much narrower area than the day before. It only took me 4 tries in order to back in where I wanted it.[:D]  This is because the " Audience Rule" [&:] kicked in as I blocked the street until I had the PU lined up right. Even my neighbor across the street came over to congratulate me --he backs up trailers into very narrow spaces like a pro.

Thanks to " Austin Boston"  for posting the lengthy why it s harder to back up a smaller trailer, especially with a larger TV, and how to back up. Every bit of advice I remember getting before concentrated on " steering" . " AB"  said the TV actually pushing the tongue of the trailer. So, I just envisioned myself at the tongue of the trailer & made the TV " push"  the PU where I wanted it...just as if I where physically pushing the PU myself. The steering came naturally after that. My neighbor said he looks at what corner of the trailer he wants where & determines which corner of the TV needs to move. I told him it was too much over-analyzing for me (he s an electrician) & the method that " AB"  described made more sense to me.

Anyway, thanks for letting me " toot"  my own horn. [8D]

 Peace be with you all.

DanusmomCongratulations ! I am dreading the day I have to tow and back up. I am a pretty good driver, but never ever towed anything. Don t look forward to my backing it in stories anytime soon. of course with my luck, that would be at the next rally with everyone watching [:@]

 DanusmomThat s wonderful!
 Great news!

DanusmomGood job!  I found it much easier than expected.  Especially if I take my time and realize that it s ok to make a mistake and start over.

DanusmomCongrats!!! I m still getting it partially in the site, unhitching and pushing it the rest of the way LOL. Won t even try our driveway yet. I had just gotten to where I could get the old one in when we upgraded, and this one is still just too big.

DanusmomGood for you.  Now go out there and camp with out worrying if you can do it.

DanusmomGood job!  One of these days I need to try that!  But first DH would need to get the camper out of our driveway!  Then he d need to get it back in (the driveway is wayyyy too tricky for me!)

DanusmomIf you can find a parking lot with lines painted on it that you can use at night, it makes a wonderful place to practice backing up.
We have a fairly large truck and PU and it is very easy to back the PU because the mirrors are so big  you can see so much of the PU.

vjm1639

DanusmomLOL...the " fairly large truck"  is my biggest problem!   I won t back up his truck WITHOUT the Popup on it! With it on, I was hopeless. We went to the empty high school parking lot and still I couldn t do it.    If I ever do it myself I ll be one of those in the pull through spots!  [;)]

DanusmomCongratulations!  I find it much easier to park a tt than a pu.  My husband won t attempt either and I like it that way...lol.  Keep up the good work!
