Does anyone have any input on Deer Run in Schaghticoke,NY ?
It is close by a lock in the NY canal system and I want to take the family there to watch a boat go through.  My DW thinks I am nuts[8D] but I went thru one in a canoe in the Adirondacks and it was real neat[:D] so I hope that my older DD will be impressed and maybe even DW[;)] with a boat going thru.
Deer Run is only about 30 miles from home so it would be a nice weekend trip.
 Has anybody been there??
 Thanks

farmerI don t know about this particular campground, but I will tell you that the Robert Mosses State park in Massena is right on the locks and we have gone there at least 1 time every year for the last 3 years.

We love to get a site on the river road so we can watch the boats go up the St. Lawerence.  Very nice.

farmerHi farmer,  Since I m from Schaghticoke, I SHOULD know about this campground, but sadly to say, it s not someplace I would go.  Heck, we live five miles from the campground![:o]  Anyway, I m told it s a very nice campground, 90% of the sites are seasonal, but the price is a bit steep, ($30+/night).
The locks are fun to visit, especially the lock at Stillwater, the attendent is the best, and there are picnic tables in a very pretty setting to enjoy the show.  We have even taken our kayaks through that lock.  At first we felt rather ridiculous as we lined up waiting our turn, behind those huge cabin cruisers, but then we sat back and enjoyed the experience of paddling into the locks and grabbing a rope.
 Definitely worth a try sometime!

 farmerFolks
Thanks for the input.  With the nice change in the weather[:)] we are planning on taking a lunch to watch the locks today, I think we will head to Stillwater.  Rajones315 hopefully we can head to Massena next year when DD #2 sleeps better in the PU.
