We usually buy some at a road side stand, there always seems to be someone selling wood close to campgrounds..... or sometimes we get it at the campground...

angelsmom10

jpreiserWe bring it from home right now since we had to cut down 2 large trees in our yard.  Soon we will be out and most probably get from where we can.  We have bought from both the CG and also from a nearby place.

jpreiserUnfortunately, we re usually stuck buying it from the campground....but, I will pick up any downed wood I find at the campground if it s allowed.  Normally what we get at the campgrounds is pretty pitiful stuff too, but living in a townhouse there isn t much room to store wood.  The only places I usually see selling it around here are the 7-11s close to campgrounds..and it s usually the same pitiful pine the campground is selling.

jpreiserAround here, technically, it is illegal to use any downed wood from the CG.  Although I see a lot of people going into the woods and getting their wood there, we may only pick up small twigs and use a kindling, but that is rare.  Recently we have been using firestarters we found at WalMart for 33 cents each and they work great to get the fire started.

 jpreiserjpreiser,

I get mine at the camp grounds for many reasons but the main one is additional weight. Don t have that many camp fires myself when every around me has one. [8D]

jpreiserWhat you people really need to do is go camping with Bearbait and friends.  By the time I got there the wood had magically appeared (I think a cord of it, or something like that) and was neatly stacked.  Now, that is service!

At home, we either take a little of our own or buy it there.

jpreiserWe bring it from home. That s the one advantage of having a big van and only 2 of us. Plus a friend works for a mill, so we get all kinds of kiln dried scraps for free.

Right now in MI there is a ban on taking any cut firewood out of a contained area, because of the emerald ash borer spreading and killing off ash trees. So the kiln dried lumber has been great to take along. Oak, maple, cherry and walnut...makes the food taste great.

jpreiseri don t burn anything so i couldn t vote...whaaaa

chasd60

jpreiserWe collect hazardous waste for $50/lb and just bring that to burn..... we can make $400-500 per weekend[;)].

It all depends how close we are camping to home. We bring wood if we are camping locally and we generally just buy it at the CG on the long distance trips.

Ahhh...now THAT s wood!  LOL...the soft pine from the campground....well, can t say it imparts the same taste....  [;)]

jpreiserI almost always buy it at the CG. We usually camp in State Campgrounds and I know they can use all the financial help they can get or pretty soon they won t be there!!!

NCSunshine

jpreiserWe do a little of all of them, but this is the first year we started taking it from home.  Used the others last year, with buying at the CG being the most.

Gone-Camping

jpreiserI do all of it except bring it from home! I m usually loaded to the max and don t dare add the weight of the firewood. I ll search the area for timber on the ground, and buy it if there isn t sufficient stuff lying around.

jpreiserI always bring wood from home. The last few times we ve used old wood pallets that we cut into perfect stacking and hauling size. Most stores have broken ones behind their loading docks and are more than willing to give them to you if you ask. That and a stack of week old newspaper to start it and you ve got the perfect campfire!

Miller Tyme

jpreiserWe bring wood from home, from a wood pile shared by our extended camping family.  However, with a 5er, a TT, and 5 popups all using the same woodpile, our supplies are getting low.....[:@]
