Jo Ann

the dh and i are ready to buy an a/c but would like some input from those of you who already have one.  The poll is short but typed in feed back is appreciated.

Turn Key

Jo AnnI marked that it was " alright"  only because when we purchased the PU, I didn t know that there was a bigger AC unit.  I would have up-graded to that one, if I d known.

Jo Ann

Jo Annwhats your btu now and what would you prefer????

 Jo AnnJo Ann,

Don t even think of anything smaller than the standard 13,500 BTU.  I the sun it is the only thing that can keep up with the cooling loss through the canvas of a pop up.

Also if you don t have them, get reflective bunk end covers.  Make them yourself or but the Popupgizmos.  Either way they help a lot!

Jo AnnI m not sure of the brand, but we had it installed at the dealership when we ordered our PU.  We have used it several times and love it.  We also have the popupgizmos blankets and love them also.  We have only used them hand in hand, so don t know how they work separately.

Someone we know from GLPUC has the blankets and no a/c and says they have noticed a real difference.  So we highly recommend the blankets for sure.

Jo AnnWe have the Coleman AC that came with our PU and had ordered the popupgizmo covers before we ever used the AC. Good grief...can t imagine it being any cooler in the PU!  We haven t even used the Popup covers yet and can t turn the AC on high.  It gets REAL cold in there quick.   I am looking forward to some weather that isn t quite so hot and humid though so we CAN try out the covers without the AC and leave the windows open to a breeze!

Jo AnnI said it was OK but we really hardly have used it at all.  The few times we have used it we kept it on a low setting and were plenty cool but it wasn t the middle of summer either.  The only time we really needed it we were dry camping and just used the reflexit covers which helped some.  Camping in the mountains as we do means it usually cools down by nightfall so we were comfortable.

Jo AnnWe have the Carrier heat pump and love it.  I have not found any " cons"  as of yet.  The only thing that I could think of is if it gets below freezing the heatpump will freeze up.  However the heatstrip kicks in.  We don t go if it is below freezing so this isn t a factor to me.  Whenever we have used the heat it is great!  The blower circulates it throughout the PU.  The AC is a 13500btu and I believe the heat pump is the same.  Both work great!

Actually, we used the silver & blue ones for over a year before I got the Popupgizmos.

I find that if we are in a campground with electric, the A/C is a nice addition.  I sleep much better when it is cold - plus the motor running adds a little " white noise" .

Jo Ann

Jo Anni know what you mean...i like it cold too, especially since it get hotflashes and night sweat...guess where i got 2 mesquito bites last weekend when we where camping and it was warm....just guess.

Jo AnnWe are happy with our Coleman, and I voted that it is alright.  We had a Dometic prior to the Coleman that we were also quite happy with.  We have a 13500 unit, and would not recommend less, especially Jo Ann since I know your camper is the same size as ours.  We do great, even in the Texas heat.

Jo Ann

Jo Annthanx startx...thats a big help, knowing that we have the same size camper...actually isn t the 822 the flagstaff equivelent of the rockwood 2308?

Camping Coxes

Jo AnnOurs is the Dometic.  When first " popping-up"  I thought it was silly to have an AC unit on something that isn t airtight, so would get hot.  Kind of like fighting a losing battle.  Then we bought our used Coleman, which had a brand new, used one time out, Dometic AC.  We love it!  Our only gripe is that we can only use it with hookups.  It s made what could have been a miserably hot trip much more bearable.  One added bonus -- the AC motor sound drowns out your neighbor s kids riding their bikes round and round your campsite at 7 AM, allowing you to sleep in!!!

Jo AnnYes Jo Ann, our campers are actually almost exactly alike.  I checked out the floorplan while you were shopping, and then your pics, and there are only a few small differences in yours and mine.  If I remember right it was only that we have an interior door to our access trunk, and I think your potty is installed where you would face the large bunk while seated, where ours faces the counter by the sink.
