After the recent sale of our 89 Jayco, we had hopes of moving " up"  to a hybrid or a TT.  There really doesnt seem to be a market for used hybrids right now, and the stories I could tell you about the Crappy used TT s we have seen - OMG!  Well basically we decided to opt for a newer PU, one made in atleast the last 10 years.

To make a Long story slightly shorter, we looked at  a 1996 Jayco 1207 last night.

The guy seems H*ll bent on us paying him $2,700 cash for it. He swears up and down if he puts it in the paper he could sell it for $3800. I think he must be thinking of another market. There was another guy down here in Houston that had I believe the 97 dual axle model, that he originally listed for $4500, and after a month in the paper I think he finnaly had to settle for $2100 for it. And it was SWEET!!

Basically, this 96, has some small issues...Of course they ripped out the original fridge, but the little dorm fridge was installed nicely. A couple of spots on the particle board countertops look like they are swelling, one is pretty bad. There is a couple of tears in the piece of canvas that covers up the window on the front bunk, but they are VERY small, and could be patched easily. They installed a car stereo in the front by the U-shaped sofa. The decals on the outside are also all peeling off. It had to have been from some harsh cleaner, I dont think even the TEXAS heat could do that.

It doesnt have a potty or shower , it has an awning  (never had one of those before) it also has the inside outside cooktop. I am sure gonna miss being able to bake in my oven!!! NO more Pecan Pie s at the potluck.

Other than that - the initial walk around looked pretty good. He had it parked in the grass, so we couldnt get underneath to look at the floorboards, but the didnt seem to " give"  under our weight!

So basically - I guess I am asking should we go with this guys $2700. We already tried to talk him down to $2500 from $3000, and he stopped at $2700.

ambrosiaI purchased a  95 Jayco Eagle 8 last year & paid $2,600.  the inside was in very good shape & the outside only had the ususal fade of normal aging.  We are very pleased & glad we saved the money a new one would have cost.

I would not panic if you do not want to go above your original offer.   I would stay with your first offer & continue to look for a better offer.  $2,500 is a good price & if it sells fast, another one is sure to come along.

 Good luck!

We looked at a Rockwood that the lady selling wanted $4,000 firm.  It was a beautiful trailer, well taken care of, but we could get a brand new one for just a few hundred more than that and have a warranty.   We kept watching her ad.  Pretty soon it was $4,000 OBO.  Then it went to $3,500 firm.  DH kept watching the ad daily.  The day she hit $3,500 OBO, he had me call her.  I offered her $3,000 cash in hand that day.  She hardly paused and said " sold."   Then even delivered it because the wiring was different than what our old TT was so we couldn t tow it home.

If you wait, he may realize he can t get that and will be more flexible.  And why is he using such a pressure tactic on you? I d be uncomfortable with that.

I think he is doing that because he knows we just got $2300 for our 1989 Jayco.  What he doesnt understand is that our dual axel 15 er with an oven and potty and furnace and overhead cabinets is pretty hard to find!  Unlike the plain Jane  96 he is selling.

ambrosiaWe have a 1995 Jayco 1206 that we purchased used 2 years ago. It was spotless and everything looked brand new inside.  We had shopped around for quite a while and just fell in love with it at first sight.  We have no regrets with our Jayco.

While a " great price"  was important to us we were more concerned that it didn t smell or have mold, mildew, leaks and had been cared for.  It was our first popup and I didn t need a " headache" .  We shopped around for quite a while and just knew when the good price = good value.  When my DW said " lets get it" , I just knew we had found the right camper for us.

 Good luck.[:)]

PopUpTrio

ambrosiaAmber, remember me, Lindy.  The popup we had when we first met you was a 96 Jayco 1206KB.  It was in great shape and also had the potty/shower combo.  We paid $3800. for it used in Nov of 2001.  We used it for a little over a year and sold it for $3900.  I also inc. a lot of misc items, rugs, table-top oven, a shelf, etc.  to justify the extra $100.  We had also re-caulked the top and had the A/C serviced before we sold it.  The first people who came to look at it bought it and we had a lot of calls after it was sold.  I have no doubts that we could ve sold it for more but wouldn t have felt comfortable doing so.  Anyway, we really liked the Jayco.  However, with the onset of hybrids, there may be some better deals on popups.  Hope you guys get something soon so you can keep on campin!

ambrosiaWe own the 93 Jayco Jay Series 1206. We paid $2,900 four years ago for it. NADA still lists it as being worth $2,400. We have been checking out the values because we are looking to upgrade. We also took out the original cooler and added a dorm fridge, a larger one though. We had to do some carpentry, added molding around it, etc. We also have a porta-potti and an awning. My DH is going to try to get at least $2,200 for ours when we do go to sell and we don t have any of the other problems you have listed. IMHO, he probably could get at least $3,000 for it, although I would mention the other problems and explain how much it is going to cost you to fix them and maybe he would come down a little bit. All in all I do believe he will get the $2700 for it.

ambrosiaI have a 97 1207 and have only had a few minor troubles with, mostly of my own doing[:@].  If it has the hydraulic surge brake system, check to see if it had been serviced recently.  Coming home from a weekend trip my brakes began to drag on me and I have to put it in the shop.  Other than that, it has been great.

ambrosiaWe bought a 10  1995 Jayco this last spring for $3,500, and love it! It has AC and the canvas was replaced two years ago, very clean and no bad smells.

ambrosiaIf you can wait, I d wait, at least around here, the prices will start to come down.  If you are willing to travel, maybe you can list the wants and needs of the PU you are looking for and the board can start to look around their local area for anything for sale.

Well I am willing to travel only so far - since Texas is so darn big I really cant even see myself going too far west, but I could probably swing going into Lousiana or even north into OK or Arkansas.

Basically I want a popup made within the last 10 years - 12  box at least - with an awning and it MUST have cold AC and I want to pay around 2500 or less...

ambrosiaI d post a " WANTED"  in the classifieds and also if that area has their own website like GLPUC does and post a message also over there.
