 .. Hi All,

A very long weekend I may say. While pulling out of camp grounds I realized that something was dragging. Yip! It was my trailer jack wheel still down in the down position. Yip! I bend it all up to the point that I can not put the wheel in the up position. I can not pull the pin handle. Need a new one. Okay, can we replace it by removing the spring pin on the swivel itself? Where can I order one ? I am sure this has happen more than once out there. So I am asking for all the help you can provide. The trailer can still sit on the wheel but can not get it up. Help Please

 Thanks

Tim5055

whitestar505Yes, just remove the spring clip and you should be able to remove the jack.

IIRC all of the tongue jacks for FFT/Coleman are made by BAL (yes, the same as the leveler).  They are available at Coleman dealers and other RV dealers as well.

 tim5055Tim5055,

Sounds like you may of had the same problem at one time or another. So I was wonder if you know just how to get that spring clip off. I tried last night with a screwdriver and a hammer but it just kept slipping around the flange

Tim5055

whitestar505Actually, no I havn t done that yet, but I have dragged other items.

The snap ring is removed with [link=http://www.mytoolstore.com/kd/kdspec18.html]snap ring pliers[/link].  I used this link because it showed photos of the pliers, not because I have purchased from them.

IIRC looking at the ring it has two small holes which you would put the plier tips into and compress the ring to remove it.

I would check out Sears or Home Depot, both probably have them.  Snap ring pliers com in two types, internal and external meaning they either expand or compress the ring to install/remove it.  Some pliers are adjustable to do both.

 tim5055Tim,

As always thanks for the great information. Now all I have to do is find a dealer with one on hand.

 Thanks Again

whitestar505You cannot use a floor jack to jack it up sit the trailer on blocks and remove the jack???

The Jack on the Jayco would not roll up and the replacement would not fit in the hole (The hole was too small) so we went to the coleman type jack and wheel. It just bolted on. It was 20.00 to 30.00. Boating places as well as camper dealers sell them.

 SheBantamPaula,

Priced it out this morning at &0 plus dollars. Where did you get your at if I may ask? I have a dolly so keeping it up is no problem. Just finding the time to work it is.

whitestar505Whitestar my jack stripped the threads internally last fall and I had to replace it.  A friend of mine had ring pliers and it only took a minute to remove and then replace the jack.  A new ring came with the new jack.  I ordered mine from my Coleman dealer.

If you can take a couple of photos of the full removal of the jack I can add them to my [link=http://www.title-3.com/TongueJackService.htm]Tongue Jack Service Page[/link]

Bought a set of Channel Lock Snap Ring priers #907 but could not remove the ring. Seems like it did not open it up enough. These are seven inchs long which I would think would be long enough. Also the pins keep slipping out of the holes in the ring which did not help. Do you know if there is a larger pair of priers for the job?

Tim5055

whitestar505I have seen them in several sizes, so yes p- there probably are.

I really havn t looked close.  To remove the jack do you compress the ring or expand the ring?

Expand the ring about 2-3 inch. Also need a 90 degree bend. I have been on the web and they come in a larger size. Hope I can rent a pair.

whitestar505whitestar505, when I replaced my tongue jack, all I needed was a pair of plain ol  run-uh-da-mil  (read: cheap) ring expanders from the auto parts store. If you can get only one side over the lip, you can work your way around the ring. Have a pair or two of needlenose pliers on hand-- once you get the ends of the ring over the lip, they can help remove the ring sometimes.

WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!  The ring can " snap"  right off the expander if you are not careful. IIRC, I had to futz with it a bit to get it off and on. The design of the jack swivel makes it hard to get a good angle, but it shouldn t be too much of a problem.

Good luck.  We re outta here for a long weekend to Yosemite!
