If you are interested in going to Letchworth SP, NY in 2004 vote away.[:D]  There are 3 loops in the campground that allow pets and all sites have electric.  The electric ranges from 20 to 50 amp.  There are beautiful water falls in the park and horseback riding, balloon rides, 2 swimming pools, electric " cars"  and white water rafting are available (at a price of course).  The park is located about an hours drive south of Rochester NY.

Here is a link to the park http://nysparks.state.ny.us/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/nysparks/parks-search.cgi

tlhdocWell, you know our answer! We will definitely be going back- August is usually an easier month for Blaise to get time off.

On our first trip we planned it for 4 nights and ended up staying for 5. This year, we planned for 5 nights and would have stayed longer, but we had things to do here and get ready for our Labor Day weekend trip.

We usually take 2 days just to hike around the southern end of the park and see all the falls. Then we take a day and go do the tour of Mt. Morris Dam and hike or bike the Finger Lakes Trail. Then anotehr day goes to hanging out at one of the pools with the kids.

It is our favorite trip of the camping year!

tlhdocI am interested in going.  How long of a drive would it be for me?  How long would you all stay?  Would it include a weekend?  Are the black flies bad up there?  If so, when?  Will it be cool up there?  I need to know these things.  TIA[8D][8D][8D]

tlhdocI d like to go. I think the black flies are bad in late spring/early summer but I could be wrong. I voted for Aug because of the flies and when we went to Niagara Falls in late Aug, there was little traffic. Maybe most people were done traveling by mid Aug. Also the later it is, the more likely we can book sites together since this park seems to fill up quickly.

I was also thinking of going to the Thousand Islands area to see Boldt Castle. Is anyone else interested? I could either combine trips (do Letchworth SP for a long weekend and then travel about 4 hours to the Thousand Islands area for the rest of the week) or do 2 separate trips. Both of these areas are about 5 hrs from home. I may do this combination trip instead of Kentucky. It would certainly be less driving.

I don t know how long I will be able to get off work so I am thinking a weekend or long weekend, although people could stay as long as they like.  Beckie it is about 3 and 1/2 hours for me so add an hour or so for you.  No black flies when we were there in August.  It was hot and humid the weekend we were there.  Now you know.[:D][;)]

tlhdocLee they are working on it.  The had 2 meetings this past week.  They may even start buying land next year, if they get the funding.  Construction should start in the next 2 or 3 years and take 3 to 5 years to finish.  So lets see in about 8 years we will plan a trip and miss all the 4 lane undivided highway.[:D]

tlhdocBirol posted the vote for July so we can just ignore that one.[:D]

DiW

tlhdocMaybe we should post this trip on the general board to see if our friends from outside our region (like Canada or Ohio) want to join us. I just checked Mapquest and from Cleveland, it s just over 4 hrs (yet 5 1/4 hrs from my house).

tlhdocWill have to pass on this one...just a few hours too far...

tlhdoc

tlhdocLee that is what they are going to do.  You know the government time, time, time.  No I want to go back again next year.

Di that is a good idea thanks.

tlhdocWe would love to join you all.[:)]  I ll keep checking to see what decision is made and see if it fit s dh s shift work.

tlhdocI guess I can t vote as a  guest  rather than a registered member.  Oh well, August would be ok for me as well, Kathy (sis) has done a couple of August trips and has enjoyed them immensely.  It s a long haul (5-6 hours I d guess, she would know for sure), but a place I m definitely interested in seeing.
