This is the first year we re camping and doing the Halloween Trick or Treating the weekend before Halloween.  We re going to Eagle s Peak in Robesonia, PA for the first time.  I was thinking of putting out some decorations on my site and even bringing my fog machine.  Of course, if our site is too close to the others, I probably won t use the fog machine, but Eagle s Peak SAYS our site is separated from the other sites with shrubs and trees.

I was just curious how many others Trick or Treat while camping and what it s like?  Do you have any tips for making this event more fun?

What I m REALLY hoping for is that the new Cabela s store near Reading, PA is open by that weekend!  [:D]

campingboatersWe do.  We tried it for the first time last year and couldn t believe how great the sites got all decked out.  Most camp sites were better decorated than our neighbourhood.  In Ontario, most parks close in the beginning of October or earlier, very few are open all year round.  The Pinery which is close to the MI border has about 1000 sites; most if not all are booked for Halloween!  We have our reservation and can t wait[:)]

campingboatersDuring the 3rd weekend in October some of the State Parks in Southwest Michigan have a big Halloween festival..... some called a Harvest Festival.  We stumbled upon it by accident last year and we ended up running to store for Halloween decorations to keep up with the Jones s next door.  300 campsites completely decked out with decorations, some I would imagine had thousands of dollars worth of stuff.  It was amazing when the sun went down.  They have a band, pumpkin carving for the kids, costume contests, hay rides, trick-or-treating, etc..  It s quite a big deal.

I don t know if PA has similar festivals, but if they do, find a CG that has one and you ll be right at home with your fogger.

 Have fun!

campingboatersYep, every year for the last 4 years. We decorate the rig, the kids go trick-or-treating, the cg has games and prizes for the kids, hayrides, etc. Later in the evening, the cg has a dance and costume party for the adults.[;)]
It s usually the first or second weekend of October-most cgs in Wis. close after that.[:(]

campingboatersLast year was our first year to camp at Halloween.  We went to Jellystone-Quarryville, PA and we decorated some, took pumpkins for the kids to carve, the kids dressed up and everyone visited each other s site trick or treating.  We went through candy in no time.  This year we know what to expect and will decorate a little more.  Some camper went all out and created haunted houses.  See my Webshots for some pictures of Jellystone.

campingboatersOur family does the " Halloween in August"  every year at Wipporwill in NJ.  It s GREAT.  Most of the seasonals go all out decorating and have a different theme every year.   We brought tombstones, hanging ghosts, bats and a scary music CD this year.  A lot of extra work for a weekend but I loved every minute.  My kids are still small are still talking about it.

I think it is the safe family nature of the event that I love.
