Luv2Camp

I have not been on for awhile I live in VA Beach and Isabel paid us a visit last week.
As campers we did fine had our propane stove and lantern on the back porch for light and cooking Cold showers were not fun but it was camping. We were with out power for 5 days but we never lost phone service or water. We had minimal damage to our house.
17% VA Beach is still without electricity but a large # of other places in Hampton Roads, over 1/2 residents are still with out power. Many traffic lights are still out and people forget that a out traffic light becomes a 4 way stop sign. I have seen many accidents becuase people are not slowing down and stopping.
Many people are having great difficulty dealing with life in these conditions. Some people are just not campers!!!
Please keep this area in your preayers as many have to rebuilt and clean up. Much food was lost to no power and many do not have the means to rebuild or even refill refrigerators.
Thanks in advance for all your thoughts and prayers for this beautiful area of Virginia.

Luv2CampMy sister-in-law lives about a mile from Mt. Trashmore and she was out of power from Thursday until Tuesday.  They do tent camping and cooked on their Coleman stove, used the latern and , like you, still had phones and water.  The only damage they had was a huge tree that fell on their garage, trashing 2 cars and the garage completely.  No one was hurt though.

Luv2CampWe had a 30th high school reunion on the 20th and one of the guys was coming in from DC.  He was originally scheduled for Thurs eve, but changed his flight.  He got the last flight out before everyone was grounded.  Luckily, his house only had heavy wind and rain came in around the chimney.

Glad everthing wasn t as bad as originally expected.

Luv2CampOH Boy! Do I feel for you guys! I certainly have been praying for everyone in the storms path.
We went through the same thing in July with Hurricane Claudette. We lost power for 4 to 7 days(depending on your location), still had phone and water (but not Cell phones that service was out- towers blown down), no TV or Radio(same tower problems) so no news!, and minimal house damage. We too camped on our patio with Coleman stove, lantern, and gas grill. The only bad part was the oppressive heat at the time. 98 degrees with 90% humidity and no breeze- a bad combo! It gets to you after awhile. We lost all our food in the refrigerator and the freezer- an awful messs- Yuk!
I hope everything gets up and running for you soon. God bless to all.

Luv2CampI hope things are looking better for you soon.  It is always good to have camping equipment when the power goes down.
