I purchased an e-trex gps unit from Dick s sporting goods for ~$99.00.  I use it when riding my bike to see how far I have gone.  Also, I use it now with a great game described in the last issue of PUT, geocaching.  The website is www.geocaching.com.  We just stated, but it is alot of fun.  Found a cache site on our last camping trip, and I hope it is something we can do more of when camping.
 
 They also have alot of great books & maps.  I also like to look at the backpacks.  I have a The North Face daypack that I really like. If you like to take a camera with you outdoors, they have dry bags that are nice, too.

If you can get a GPS, it would be great I guess.  I know I want one when I get a job !

I have been looking at GPS s. Specifically the Garmin Etrex Venture unit, as it seems to have the most features and the best screen resolution in that price range. Anyone with experience with this particular unit (the Venture)?
