I replaced our '94 Jeep Cherokee with a new 2003 4.7 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4X2. Does anyone here pull their PU with one?

I expect the truck to pull a little better than the Cherokee, but I bet the gas milage will take a serious hit. Any comments welcome.

What is the tow rating ? do you think it has enough power to tow a big PU ? Don't be doing anything dangereous and endanger all of us now !

Birol;
The tow rating for the 2003 4.7 Dakota Quad Cab 4X2 with 5 spd automatic and 3.92 rear end is:  6050 lbs.  I would think that his one wont have any problem pulling a Santa Fe (max GVWR on a 2002 Santa Fe is 2550 lbs).

The max tow rating for the Jeep was 5000 lbs, and although there was a lot of ample pulling power in the Jeep, we could still feel the PU behind us.

I am hoping that this one will be better overall.

Umm, How does it feel to be "GOTCHA"'ed by Mr. Fluff ? I was just kidding  ;)

(Hey Birol, I knew that!) whispering into your ear....

I traded my '99 Jeep Cherokee (no towing package--just Mopar hitch added after purchase) for a 2003 Dodge Durango with full towing package back in April. The difference in towing the Utah is VERY noticeable! I don't even worry about running the AC while I'm towing!  LOL!!

Since the Durango is built on the same chassis as the Dakota, I think you'll be very pleased! Heck, I have to look in the rear view mirror sometimes to make sure the Utah is still there! ;)

However, you're right about the gas mileage. That V8 engine sounds great when you mash the accelerator, but you can almost see the gas needle move! :p

What kind of gas mileage do you get with your Durango? On my maden voyage with my TV was getting 15 miles to the gallon. I do have to confess I had the carborator jetted too lean. Yea I said carborator, does anyone still remember those?

I can't believe that my new TV is still not here. I offered to go pick it up myself (it was in St. Johns Newfoundland) but they said that they would have it brought here by flat-bed truck instead.  That was the 15th of October.

Now its the 26th, and its still not here!  This is as bad as waiting for a new PU to come in.  It better be here come Monday... or I think I'm going to explode!

OH NO don't explode! ;)   I do hope it gets here soon so you can have it.  Good luck and let us know when it comes in.

 ****UPDATE****

I swung by the car dealership this morning, and while I was there, an 18 wheeler pulled in with my new truck on the trailer. I waited until the driver carefully parked it and left before I walked over and looked it over.

The feelings I had inside reminded me of when I was a kid on Christmas morning looking at all the wrapped presents, and imagining what could be inside. I will be returning to the dealers tomorrow to pick it up. Today is Sunday, and Halifax still doesn't have Sunday shopping yet!

Now all I have to do is think up a good excuse to leave work and go get it!!

I patiently waited until he parked it and left before walking over to have a look at it.  It sure looked great, even though it was covered with a dusting of road grime from travelling 9 hours all the way across the Province of Newfoundland and sailing on a ferry for 8 hours, before making the last 6 hour road leg from Cape Breton to Halifax.

I will be returning tomorrow to get it as today is Sunday... and we don't have Sunday shopping... yet!

I can't wait! :D
