hi everyone

new family of four just entered pop-up camping world by purchasing a very used '88 sunlite sable.  i grew up pop-up camping and have been dying to get my new family involved.

my first question is:  how to get an owners manual for this camper?

second, when i went as a kid, my parents made the decisions... now it is me who decides.  so i don't know that much.  any advice on anything is GREATLY appreciated.

lastly, how do i pack the wheels in grease after every season??

thanks in advance and happy camping.

As far as the manual, I'd get in contact with the mfg.  With our old '85 Starcraft, we called them and they sent one for $15 including s/h.  I'd say that would be your best bet.

For you 2nd qustion, what do you need to know -- there is a wealth in information here

The other question, I know someone will answer you.

Welcome back to the fun world of popup camping,

I guess I can jump in for the wheel grease question.

Based upon the age of your camper, I doubt that your camper has greese fittings in these areas. If they have fittings, just grease them up.

   1. But you start by taking off the tire.

   2. Remove the dust cap located in the center of the wheel hub using large channel-lock plyers.

   3. Remove the cotter pin from the hole in the spindle with diagonal cutting plyers.

    4. Remove the retaining cotter pin shield (usually a chrome looking do-hickey)

    5. Remove the spindle nut using the large channel locks.

    6. Pull off the wheel hub.

    7. The front bearing will come off with the hub removal. The rear bearing must be removed and replacement of the rear grease seal. This can be removed by placing a piece of wood into the front of the hub hole (the same size as the rear bearing diameter) and lighty banging down until the rear bearing and seal drop. The back of the hub must be suspended off of the floor to allow the seal to be pressed out.

     8. Now comes the messy part....... without cleaning the old grease from the bearings, place a big glob of wheel grease in the palm of one hand. Taking the bearing in hand with the other, drive the grease from one side of the bearing through to the other side using a pumping action into you palm. You will notice the old grease being pushed through the bearing by the new grease. Repeat for the second bearing.

     9. Place the rear bearing back into the wheel hub, and lightly tap in the new grease seal using a wooden handled hammer. Make certain the seal is flush against the shoulder in the hub.

Place the wheel hub back on to the spindle, pressing until the new seal seats on the spindle.

You are now ready to do everything in the reverse order of the removal for the assembly.

        Hope this helps,

          Hoppy
