Garage sale ? I love buying stuff at garage sales, stuff people don't want, in excellent condition, for just a fraction of what it costs. Lucky you :)

What kind of a bird(s) do you have ?

Actually a newspaper online classified, but we garage sale all the time!  I get so many great bargains!

We have 2 budgies (parakeets) and one cockatiel that thinks he's a budgie.  He sits and get groomed by Tweety the budgie all the time.  They even snuggle up together at night.  We found the cockatiel... Polo... while on a camping trip in VA a couple years ago. He's a great bird. So friendly! So many good things come out of camping!

Sounds excellent ! We had two birds while in Canada, and both died  :(  We can't bring ourselves to get another one. Maybe we will when we move to the new house, and DD wants a dog and I promised her. We don't even have an agreement on what to get yet nor the money  :D  :D  :D

On a talk radio show I was listing too last month, they had a guy on talking about budgies.  He said that budgies can really talk and make sentences, not just repeating what they have heard.  What is your opinion on this?  Do your birds talk and think?

I love finding bargains at the local bargain and consignment stores.  It sounds like you got a good deal in the bird cage.  Yes, I think animals are intelligent and that some of them will amaze you with what they can do.

Wow, what a find.  I would love to find a deal on a cage like yours  We have a cockatiel named Sunny.  I feel so sorry for her sitting in the small bird cage that we have.  She spends a good deal of time outside the cage but on those occasions when she is in her "house" it would be nice to have a larger one.

The budgies we have don't talk but I have been told that many do!  And they say males are better talkers than females?!?!   Go figure!  Years ago we had a budgie that said a couple words, "I love you, Pretty Bird and Good boy!"

Our cockatiel, Polo, isn't a talker either but his whistles are astounding.  He whistles the Andy Griffith them when he wants attention.  When the pool guys were putting in the pvc return lines, they were usind a small hand saw to cut the pvc.  It made this funny "wheep wheep wheep" sound when it was sawed.  A few minutes later I hear this funny cheep sound coming from the bird cage.  Sound like a little chick cheeping.  Turns out it was Polo imitating the sound of the pvc pipe being cut!  He never made that sound before.  The pool guys thought it was funny.  They said they guess they better start watching their language... never know what else Polo might start to repeat!

I definitely think the birds think.  They know how to get my attention.  Their emotions seem to fit what's going on around the house.  When they got the new cage, they were so excited, hopping all over and twittering like crazy.

The birds also "talk" to each other, even though they are different species.  One of the budgies, Tweety, is in love with Polo the cockatiel.  They snuggle together and preen each other all the time, cooing love sounds all the while.  Poor Carly-Paulie, the other budgie, mopes when Tweet is loving Polo.  He sits on the other side of the cage, watching dejectedly and making low grumbling sounds.  When Tweety is done preening Polo, Carly-Paulie runs over and scold Tweety, yelling at him and butting him in the side!  Too funny!

Check out Ebay... You can find some great cages there.  Not as good a deal as mine maybe but still good prices and many have free shipping.

I too felt bad for my birds.  Their old cage was my no means small, but now they have a huge cage!  Looks more like an aviary for the 3 little guys!
