1.  Your drink starts freezing even in an insulated cup !
 2.  The  coffee grounds froze into the basket that was accidentally left out over night, which was froze to the table.
 3.  Your shoes start melting by the fire and you don't even feel it  (while they're on your feet).
 4. You buy a bag of ice and never put it in the cooler, and it dosen't melt.
 5.  You put food in the cooler to keep it from freezing. The cooler turned into a warmer this weekend!

I ventured off into the frozen tundra to camp this weekend with a bunch of crazy women.  YES, it was ladies weekend !  :J And it was COLD ! but the true campers we are , we had a blazing fire and sat out enjoying  life at the campground.  Last night it dipped down into the teens , our drinks started to turn to slush. That was our clue to go in and play a round of cards around 11 PM.
Friday night it wasn't as cold, only dipping to the low 20s.

There were a total of 19 sites filled in a CG of 136+ , 2 sites  were taken by us.

I would like to proudly announce that I backed the camper in all alone, with no help,  as I was the first of the group to arrive at the campground.
Set up, including unhitching, leveling and a quick pop up,  took all of 15 min doing it by myself.  (thank you, as I take a bow :p ) Luckily the water heater lit with no problems.
The Aliner performed perfectly in this cold, the furnace worked great keeping us toasty. Using less than half a tank of propane with the thermostat set at 65. With brief times of being turned to 70 right before going in for the night, then back down to 65 for sleeping.

It was my first taste of close to winter camping, and would do it again! Not sure I'd want to camp in any colder weather though. The high temp yesterday was 35,
low 16....guess I found my limit as fas as temps go for camping, any colder and it dosen't appeal to me. Maybe if there is a mild winter weekend I'll camp and get a fix in around Feb.  Now the withdrawl starts to set in  until then.

Marcy sounds like you had a good trip.  The insulated walls in your trailer are great for a cold weekend trip.  What did the woman sleep in? :)

GeneF

glad you had a fun trip.

i wouldn't go pass those numbers either! when hot tea or coffee starts turning into ice tea and coffee, it's no longer fun. we go down into the high twenties, we sleep on a opened sleeping bag, so the cold doesn't come up, and covered with an fannel sheets & electric blanket.    we put the silver tarp on the wing which helps keep the warmth in. we also run a electric heater and have a small clip on fan pointed at the ceiling to keep the air moving,

Forest Creature, this sounds like a great trip and well planned for. You didn't have to worry about others cutting through your site. Also you found you could maneuver your camper exactly where you wanted all by yourself.:)

Yes, until it comes time to get it in the darn driveway at home ..I think there should be a law that no one can park in the street  near our driveway.
Why is it one can pull that thing all over the country, get into all kinds of camp sites but struggle like he@% to get in the drive. Still trying to figure that one out!

Maybe your driveway need to be widened a bit at the entry.:D

6.  Well, you know it is cold when.....you absolutely have to have a porti potty in the camper to avoid going out to the bath house for the wee hour visit.

Bathhouse?? They close those soon as it gets cold out...
We had no bathhouse or water. In either case it was bring your own.
Of course the option of the outhouse was there, waaaay down on the other end of course!

Oooopppppps!  I forgot that you're in Michigan and I'm in NC, but they close down a lot of stuff in the NC Parks, too between November and April.  They might leave one bath house open and of course it will always be the as far away from the campsite as possible.;)

your camper is buried under snow and has icicles hanging from the frame!

My poor poor baby wants to go camping!  (and so do I)

You go out to collect, and all the houses pay you the first time you visit them, saying, man, what a weather to be collecting    :D

I'm glad someone resurrected this thread as I was still not back its first time around.  All I can say is, this was a brave group of women!

Having experienced   Labor Day  Michigan camping (in a tent)  along the Rifle River where we had to break the film of ICE  on our water buckets, I  have great admiration for this group even if they were staying in something a good deal  more weather proof than a REI tent.

I can fully understand why you would miss this the first time around, especially considering the antics of a few posters here with their hidden agenda of trying to post to anything and everything just to get the posts off the first page of the people that don't agree with that agenda.  Isn't it sad when people pay 30 dollars for something like an online community and a half dozen poeple ruin it for everyone?  One would think that the board owner might step in at some point and stop all this childishness, but it just never seems to happen, so the obvious conclussion is that he must condone this activity and doesn't care about the other 700 paying members of this community.

I think these ladies Forestcreature camped with should be very proud of themselves and what they accomplished, I hope they can use this experience to do a little more camping that might be considered by others to be an extreme.  After all, they are getting out for a weekend and enjoying themselves and getting a break from the day to day family activities, more ladies should get out and take on lifes challenges anyway they can.  Some ladies I know really need some time away from their houses and things, they have a lot of pent up frustrations they need to let air out, people around them are really starting to notice how they are suffering from boredom apparently, it's a sad thing to watch them deteriorate like this, it makes me very thankfull that I have a lot of friends and family around me so I don't fall into that boredom trap.

So I say, more power to you ladies, go camping!
