Will an A/C make cranking up roof more difficult?

I purchased a 13,500 btu Colaman Mach A/C for my Jayco Eagle 8 camper. I can't wait for it too come in!  This was a tough decision for me because I loved the simplicity of our camper, but I think this will be a welcome addition.  (We have reservations to camp at Myrtle Beach this summer!)

Will this make a big differece when cranking up the roof?  The A/C will weigh about 100lb.  Right now, it is a piece of cake to lift.  I was just currious if it will put a big strain on the lift system.

Thanks!

Yes it is a little harder to crank.  Make sure there are no other kits you will need to brace your roof.  You will WELCOME a/c when the heat is on at the beach this summer.  It is a must for summer camping in Arkansas.  I bet you will love your purchase.

Yep, but it's well worth the little added effort!

As long as the pop up was deigned to have A/C as an option, there should be no problem.  All newer units are designed to lift the weight, but some older ones were not.

As everyone has said,it will add a little effort to the cranking, but it is well worth it.

Yes it will be a little harder to crank, but it is worth it. :)

If it would be too hard to crank you could buy a drill and pop up that way. :D   Like I just did.

Enjoy the A/C! It can be worth its weight in gold.

My A/C arrived today!  I was surprised how large it is.  Hope to install it on Thursday.

What kind did you get? :W

I ordered a Coleman Mach 3 (13,500 btu).  It has a  listed weight of 85lbs. I almost went with a low profile Coleman Polar Cub (9,000btu), but it actually cost a little more.

Tommorw is the big day for installation.  They are calling for nice weather, so I hope we can complete it all in 1 day.  I also ordered a A/C brace from PopUP Gizmo, but I will need to wait for that to arrive.

You did the right thing going with the Mach 3.  With PUs having no insulation  you want the bigger unit to keep you cool.  You will be happy you got it on the first hot or humid day of camping. :)

I have never had a popup without A.C. but I can tell you that cranking the roof up doesn't seem too bad with one.  You will enjoy that a.c. when the humidity and temperature climbs.  We did find that at the beach we only needed to turn it on for a little while in the evening to cool it down a bit and then turned it back off.  Nice prevailing breezes kept things comfortable.  You won't want to be stuck without one, though.

Used 2B PopUPTimes

The top on my Palomino Mustang is 14' long and before I had an AC I had to stop once to rest when cranking it up. Now with the AC on I sometimes stop twice on a hot day. That's when I think about Motorhome Times :)

Dave, you were trying to crank up too fast from the outset.   Well, it doesn't hurt to take a little rest between cranks if you want to.;) :D

Finished installation today.  Got started this morning by removing the old vent and MaxxAir cover I had on the camper.  Set the A/C on the site (had to put it up there my self-wasn't too bad) and it fit well.  Went to Lowes Hardware to get wires & stuff.  Spent early afternoon with family, then returned to work on the camper.  Found out that I needed a different type of wire (12 guage) & made a quick trip to Wal-Mart.  Finished the inside part of the A/C then started to tackle the wiring.  This took me quite a bit longer because the thick wire was a little harder to work with & I wanted to be sure the conections were correct.

At 10:30pm.... FINISHED!!!  Too cold outside to tell if A/C can cool air, but fan ran well & all looked good.  Family already asleep, so I will have to wait until tommorow to show them.

The lift system appears to work well with the added weight.  I was worried that it may be too much for it.  I had become used to a feather light lift, but it will be ok now.

Hope to have pictures soon.

Sounds like a job well done to me. My a/c has the heat strips in it but we only turned it to that part just to see if it was working and it was. I don't think we ever had a need to use it, but it was there just in case. I hope you will enjoy that a/c.
