On 1 of our local radio stations, one of the DJ's has family N of Boston.  They had a family member try this experiment and was just wanting to see the different reactions.

Take a glass of HOT water outside and throw up in the air.

Yesterday, N of Boston, it turned immediately to slush -- our DJ talked that it should create snow.

Just curious the different results and what temps is this tried at.....

I think the DJ may not have a clue! Ever seen Snow Making Equipment at a ski slope? I believe in order to make your own snow, the water needs to be in the form of a fine spray, and under a little pressure. Tiny droplets of water from the spray should crystalize into snow flakes?!?!

Try a regular kids bubble blower. The bubbles shrink a little from cooling off then freeze and land on the ground.

Starcraft Dad

Well the kids and I thought we would try it. Went outside, threw the water in the air and....

The kids started to pelt me with snowballs for getting them wet. Oh well, so much for science.:p

I hear you Robert!  :(

Hey, the converse is that in Arizona, during the summer, you can throw an ice cube into the air & it won't come down (135f in the sun)!

Well I went out to throw a glass of water in the air and it came down as snow.  Funny thing is the snow was coming down before I threw the water up in the air. :J

Been there, done that.  Lived at Luke AFB 73-75.  LOVED it.  I've been back since for a trip.  The wife hasn't been yet.  We plan on doing a cool weather desert camping trip one of these days...

When they make snow at a ski resort there is a chemical laced pellet added to the water that enables the 'snow' crystals to stick together in order to make snow that will remain on the ground in a useful form.

Was in the artic a few years ago and the temp got down to -57, spit froze before it hit the ground!
