Feb 23, and I've got 5 foot of snow on my lawn and ice built up in the end of the driveway to the point the car has to jump the hump to get in or out.
Just spent the entire day trying to find ice melter or salt.
Now I can buy lawn ornaments, shorts, garden supplies, outdoor grills, and patio furniture, but do you think anyone had more than the grocery store one pound size table salt.

Not only that but Lent hasn't started and the stores are full of Easter displays.
Guess I'll have to wait till July to stock up on ice melter when they put the displays out for winter.

Yep, I know egg-zackly what you mean, Mike.  No kidding--the local   Wal_mart had the first of the spring  & gardening stuff on the shelves right beside the Christmas clearance stuff  BEFORE  New Year's Day!

It was mildly disgusting, but not a shock.

You see, Mike, if you were a WOMAN you would already be familiar with this  Crazed Seasonal Merchandise  Reversal.

For instance, the heavy Winter Coats are in the stores  IMMEDIATELY after 4th of July.  ( And of course, the middle of JUne, all the summer stuff like  grills, and patio furniture, etc.  is marked for clearance.  and then it is pretty well gone by The Fourth.)   And if you want a bathing suit you can try on as opposed to one from a catalogue, you will find the stores full of them from mid-Feb on until  about St. Paddy's Day.  

Poor old Rip Van Winkle  would think he'd lost his  imind if wandered into one of our emporiums of  clothing, dry goods and firnishings  on a scorching summer day and found himself face to face with long underwear, and down jackets along with snow  shovels and Melts-Alot.   :eek:  :confused:

It's warm here again.  We have a cool front roll through now and then, but it's 80 again.  Wearing shorts, cutting the grass, A/C blasting again.

The really good news is the mosquitoes are few and far between at the moment...

I've lived up North, and in England for years.  You guys can keep that snow stuff.  Fun to play in during a vacation, no fun to live in.  

Make the drive, it's nice here now!   :W

Come on down to NC where it's nice and no snow.  At least if we get snow it is gone in 2-3 days.  The weather can get a bit crazy at times like cool one day and hot the next during this time of year but you would enjoy it here.

This is my 5th day off from work (not a bad thing) since the storm "white-Juan" as they are calling it, passed through here in halifax.
 
We got over 95 to 100 cm (over 36") of snow in one night. Both PEI and Nova Scotia declared states of emergency... the first ever... which were removed just last night. They even had evening cerfews... the first ever for those too!
I went to work today... but had to go back home as there was nowhere to park except on the street... (not allowed). I am off again tomorrow... and will be driving in Wed, Thur and Fri to see if they have cleared enough snow so that we can park and go to work.
 
I hope my popup is Ok. I haven't been able to drive to where it is stored outside to see how deep the snow on it might be because the roads are still blocked.
 
So... unless you have eight and ten foot drifts on your street in front of your house.... stop complaining... your too soft!

Please be watching for UPS to deliver a load of Spring Weather to your area.  That is sure to allow you to get to work.  However, don't send us anymore of your winter snow.  :Z

Ummm, well.... I noticed the Tulip's are are sprouting out in the front garden this weekend! Ok, they are talking the possibility of some snow tomorrow too, but it's a real outside chance at best.

B*tch B*tch,B*tch, you get snowed in with a little bit like 36"s? Better get some real snow moving equipment.
I expect places like Pennslyania to get snowed in because the entire state owns 2 plows; but Nova Scotia? Shouldn't happen, besides you've got the ocean to push it into.:p
 
 
I wasn't b*tching about the snow, but the fact that it's mid winter and I can't buy a snow shovel, barbeque grills have replaced snow blowers in stores, and the only salt available in the middle of winter comes in shakers.

This weekend, they are talking temps in mid 50's for Sat and upper 50's on Sunday.....back on Mon.... snow flurries.
 
Living in Cincinnati, if you don't like the weather....wait 5 minutes and it'll change.

Here in our area, we had a halfway decent weekend, and DH came back from taking Lil Spanky for a walk at the park with the news that he had seen a Robin.  So exciting, that's always a first sign.  But, after the nice weekend we started the week with another few inches of fresh snow.  After all, it's only Feb.  What do we expect???

the only salt available in the middle of winter comes in shakers.

Maybe you could find a salt block at a local feed store and "shave" or grind your own with a planer or cheese grater.  Fish stores also have  aquarium salt thta comes on bigger cartons. Or how about asking a bakery where they get their salt from.  The get 10 lb and larger sacks.  Just a thought.

Yup Cindy they are real. That's about 20 miles north of my house and due east of lake Ontario. Ever heard of "lake effect" well. Well the warmer moist air coming of the lake where it didn't freeze over hits the cold air over the ground and PRSTO...SNOW.
Where I live we've had about 160 inches of snow for the season. Where the photo's were take got about 90 inches in three days and about 250 inches for the season. The Tug hill plateau just east of there is well over 400 inches.
On the Tug you'll find many houses with doors in place of windows on the second and third floors. Once you get that much snow there just isn't any place to even blow it. So the folks pack it down and come and go through the upper floor.
 
As for the salt, this morning on the news they changed the forcast from 5 days of cold and snow to increasing temps (into the upper 50's) and clear for the week. I'm letting the damn stuff melt on it's own.:S

Actually, if you go back and really read Mike's original  post here, you will notice that he was NOT b*tching about the weather (he's lived up Nawth long enough to know what to expect   ) but was actually complaining about the fact that stores, with their crazily accelerated  sales pitches, dont keep their winter stuff in stock long enough  :mad: .

PS--our crocuses are in full  bloom as are the pansies (but of course, pansies are cool weather flowers so Mother Nature gets no extra credit for  them at this time of year.)

The clothing issue happens here in the South too.  The store drones will put out long sleeve shirts and jackets here in August.  Just want I want to buy when it's in the upper 90s, and 100% humidity.  Of course the short sleeves and shorts are available in Jan.
