On our return trip from Canada, We need a quick stopover campground probably around the Fort Wayne (?) area. We would prefer a NP or SP and dry camping is not a problem. Ideas? Then the next morning we can go around Chicago. And head Northwest to Minnesota

MtnCamper,  I live 15 miles north of Fort Wayne.  Anything I can do to help on your way through just let me know.  Maybe we can get together for dinner of something.
You have several options for camping in this area.  Sounds like Pokagon SP is going to be your first choice.  It is just a couple of miles off I-69 at Angola.  It is also quite close to the Indiana Toll Road which will take you right to Chicago.  It is a beautiful heavily wooded park.  However it is very popular and on summer weekends you must have a reservation.  Week nights is not such a problem.

Other SP in the area are Chain o Lakes which is a little further south and west and more off the beaten path.  And Potato Creek SP south of South Bend just off US 31.  Again both of these are full every weekend.

There are several private campgrounds in the area if you so need.  There is a KOA at Auburn right next to I-69.  It is not much more than a parking lot.  But as aplace to stay for one night it will work fine.  Gordon's Resort is pretty nice private campground that would not be out of your way too far.  On US 20 there is Twin Mills Campgound and is very nice if a bit commercial, but with good access into Chicago.  There are few others I could suggest if you let me know a bit more about the route you will be traveling.

The only primitive campground in the are is the Pigeon River Fish and wildlife area.  i really do not know much about it. I have driven by it a time or too.  I can get you directions if that is what you want.  It will not be particulary out of your way.  It is just off US 20.  I am pretty sure they would always have space available.

Good luck and feel free to cantact me directly anytime.

We went to Pokagon and Potatoe Creek State Parks this year and both are great.  Enjoy!
