get to use their new TT

Can you imagine ANYTHING more frustrating than to get a brand new TT and have it moved onto a permanent seasonal site THE DAY BEFORE THE PLACE CLOSES DOWN COMPLETELY FOR THE SEASON? :(

They've never even spent a night in the thing and they've owned it for almost 6 months!

I think I'd probably have tried to break into the place some dark night toting a sleeping bag  :Z   so I could at least try out the bed (and been arrested for trespassing no doubt--spending the night--not in my nice new TT--but in a jail cell

One thing for sure--you can imagine that in 2 weeks, Al will have that Jimmy burning up the roads to get to the campsite.   WHAT FUN!  I bet they'll be so busy camping and trying out the new TT that we'll never hear from them again

The last week before we picked up our Trailmanor, I could hardly sleep.

So I am just wondering how many others of us are   starting out the season with the heart-flutters of using a brand new TT  or Pup-UP?  I know several of you have posted that you've just brought one home.  Is your family holding its breath until the first week-end arrives?  Do you have any special plans for  "christening"  your new toy on that maiden voyage  (remember, this is a family-oriented board  ;)  )

For you "Oldies" do you remember how excited you were when you first got your camper.   I think this is a memory that never fades--I still remember the wonderful smell of our Skamper the first time we opened it up at home way back in  1969.  Our girls were as excited as I was!  And our first trip in it was for 4 weeks out West.  WHAT  a fantasic experience.  That popup was probably the HAPPIEST  investment we ever made!:)

ANYONE ELSE WANT TO TAKE A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE WITH US?   :W

:(  It makes me sick just thinking about it. Last weekend, we went up to the site, dropped off our winter camping stuff & touched the popup and the TT. It's awful not being able to be in the new one & it's been too cold to use the popup. I looked in the shed & saw the tent, air mattress, black cat heater  & remembered the low temp sleeping bags stored at my sisters house. Peggy just closed the shed doors & locked it. Waaaaaaaaaaa.

Everything seems to be intact. Aluminum foil & mothballs still seal up all the vents & openings. Somehow the massive tarp, used to cover everything, is still in place & not ripped apart by the violent winter storms up there.

How many more days until April 15th?  :(

Topcat,
She sure likes to rub it in, doesn't she. What are friends for, right  :D ? Here's hoping you get to enjoy it soon. Maybe we'll run into you if we come your way. Do you plan to still use the popup or are you getting rid of it? You could take it Gettysburg in July - the more the merrier  :W .

Camperroo

ahhh we suffered through this with our first TT!!  Had to bring it up after the campground closed for the season.  Never got to spend a night in it...just dropped it off, got it into position and enjoyed checking everything out, then had to leave it there all through winter and couldn't get back into it until MAY!!!!   Talk about long winter!!!!

birol

This is simply brutal ! This is pure Torture !!!! If I ever bought a PU (or a TT) , it would be coming home with me the moment I fork the money over ! I would not leave without it :)  I would start sleeping in it while it is on the dealers lot    :D

Well, the campground closed up on October 15th. We had decided to rent the site, for the popup, for this coming season and had paid a deposit on it.

The following Saturday, on a spur of the moment decision, we bought the TT. One of the owners allowed us to get it situated in the new site by the dealer and gave us two weeks to move our stuff to the site. But, no electric, water or sewage (everything turned off anyway) & we couldn't spend a night in it.

We were allowed the extension because we were originally on site #61. The morning of the delivery, (we took a day off from work), I drove up to the campground to make sure the gates were open. We had installed a shed, to hold our camping stuff, and the popup needed to be moved to make room for the TT. After moving the popup, I was almost done cleaning leaves from the site when Rose, the campground manager, came riding up on her bike. She walked around & said "why do you want this small site when there's a large one right over there (the next one over is site #59)". I said that we always take this site as no one is ever around. She dragged me over to #59 & proceeded to show me all the benefits of being there. Then she said to do whatever I wanted & rode off.

Not being entirely stupid, I knew she would return once Peggy & the trailer were there and tell Peggy what she had told me.  If there was a decision to move it, I would need to borrow a truck to do so once the dealer departed. So, I went over & cleaned the leaves from site #59 too. About 12:30, Peggy arrived. I told her what Rose said & she went over to the site for a look. Mind you, we've camped in #61 since July of 2000. Peggy decided we should now be in #59 like Rose said. The TT was delivered to #59, leveled and off went the dealer. While sitting in the TT, Rose rode up & told us that WE had made a good choice and one of the owners, Gary, was giving us 2 weeks to move our shed & popup from #61 to #59 in case someone wanted to rent it for this coming season. MOVE IT ALL?????

Now, it was about 4:30 on Tuesday and we could only do things on the weekend. Saturday it poured heavily. Sunday, we drove up & moved the popup. But, the shed was a different story. It would be situated on a hilly area rather than flat ground. That meant I needed to build a level platform, (without any power tools), before we could move the shed. We did some quick figuring & went to the local Lowe's store. Bought a pile of lumber & was able to get them cut for free in the department. Hauled everything back to the site & left. The following Saturday, we built the platform, unloaded the shed, dismantled 1/2 of it, put it onto a roller board & I dragged it the 50 yards to its new home. We reassembled it, carried across the stuff, packed it up & were finished with the move.

The dealer had winterized the trailer, but there were still a lot of things the book with it said to do. So, on Sunday we did everything else and covered the TT with a tarp. Completed the move 2 days before the due date.

We had used the porta potti during the whole two weeks. So, I stopped at the dumping area to unload it before leaving. Rose came over & was talking to us. Along came one of the maintenance guys, drunk on his butt, & started complaining that we had no business there, were just enjoying the view & that Rose had to be stern with people like us or we'd take advantage of her. She rolled her eyes & said we had the two week extension. He said it had ended long before today & we had to go. He said we could come & clean our site of leaves if we wanted too & I told him it wouldn't be necessary as I would let the WIND do it for me which really pi$$ed him off. Said bye to Rose & left. Last weekend, we sneaked in to make sure everything was ok and store our winter stuff, and sneaked out before being seen by El Drunko.

Diane,

We're in Columbia Valley Campground at the junction of 605 & 607. You can pull in to #61 by going through our #59 and allow the door of your popup to face the stream (don't need to see anyone when entering or leaving the popup). Chip, our resident chipmunk, pays a visit several times a day & seems to like popups (especially AAR's). I believe the snake, who lived under our popup for the summer & then the shed, was seen by Peggy traveling at high speed toward the new home of the shed, so he/she won't be bothering anyone in that site anymore. Even if you don't want to camp there, you're welcome to stop over anytime!

In the spring, the stream is stocked with trout (if the kids fish). Two years ago, a beaver built a dam near the streams 607 exit which rather stopped  them from continuing on their way downstream and one of the maintenance guys said he had been pulling out 18"-20" trout all summer long.
