Fishing in Florida?

We are going to Key Largo (American Outdoors Camping Resort) for spring break and DH wants to fish while we're there.
Kids were catching fish off of the pier when we were there last year and he wants to give it a try.  What special fishing gear will we need?  I seem to remember the fish having some nasty looking teeth, will we need metal leaders?  What should we use for bait?  And, will we need a Florida fishing license or no if we just fish on the dock of the campground thus being onprivate property?
