Just want to let you know that there are others being cut off without warning.  Randy asked me to post this "goodbye" message for everyone:

Hello ALL  PUT'ers
Well I am no longer a member of PUT. Got cut off without a warning so I could not do this before leaving.
I wish you all well and I have great memories of PUT and the Eastern rally in Townsend, TN. I have enjoyed meeting a lot of you personally and Dave you also.
I wish you well and all of you who camp in PU's and are moving over to the half way dark side see ya on the flip side.  IF you move to the dark side I am posting on the RV.net board as my same ole' handle. "byrdr1".
So in closing, I hope to see you in a campground somewhere down the road.
Good luck Dave and PUT.
Take care and God Bless,
Randy from Elon, NC

Go Mark Martin #6
Happy Camping,
RANDY

No warning is not actually a correct statement.   E-mails are going out to everyone giving them plenty of time to get in touch with the office.

One problem we have found is that some folks change e-mail addresses and have not updated their user profile.

Please make sure your profile is up to date.

I see under a persons profile there is a place for membership expiration... who fills that in ?? Mine is empty and I would like to know when mine expires, thanks

JP,
I can't find any box like that in my user profile. Just where are you looking?

Is it the "subscription" tab you're referring too? If so, it's only to "subscribe" to topics posted on the board (receive email notifications when postings occur, etc.) and doesn't refer to subscriptions to the magazine or the message board.

OK, I see it. Seems if you click on a persons name to view their profile, there's a place for their "Member Expiration Date". But, if you go to your profile to make changes, there isn't a place to put the date. It must be an administration option rather than one we can do.

At this point that feature of the software is not utilized.  If we filled in the expiration dates you would automaticly be shut off on that day.

If you would like to know when yours expires give the office a call.

Thumbs down......sorry PUT and MOD1,  but I do not totally agree with your policy of emailing the warning of expiration to the membership. :(   Consider that there are plenty of members who do not check into the board frequently and who do not even think of updating their profile.  You will lose lots of members if you do nothing more than an email!    :%

(Mod1, I have sent you byrdr1's email address by private message, but he says he is not renewing.)

This problem should have been addressed here when some started to get bumped without warning, but only the ones who check in would see it.

I dont understand--MOd 1 just sent a message lasdt week saying memberships had been extended to mid-May.  I mean, didnt we all join about the same time--or is it just the ones  who joined before end of January of Feb of '03?.  Does this mean MamaMia and Camperoo  really  ARE shut out from the board now ?

Is this as  confusing to others as it is to me?

Maybe the easiest thing is that  all memberships begun before May of last year would all expire this May since so many have been extended because of glitches with the server?

No, I don't remembers saying all memberships had been extended to mid-May.

This is what I said:

QuoteI promise, you will get plenty of notice before anyone is locked out

There are many different expiration dates. Depending on when you joined and how long your magazine subscription was good for when the two were combined may make a difference.

Again, no one has been turned off.

To explain a little further, if you just had an Arvee membership, it was good for one year with the board wide extensions.  Those folks memberships expired April 1.

Now, some folks also had a magazine subscription.  When the magazine and Arvee were combined members were given a credit for unused time.  Some applied it to a purchase in the store and others used it to extend their combined Arvee/magazine membership.

So, there are now many expiration dates.

Thanks, Mod 1 :)

Now I understand  :S and so does everyone else EXACTLY what the renewal situation is!  :W

Maybe there should be one of those announcement or sticky things about keeping your email address updated. Only 90+ people have read this topic & if they didn't read the last few threads they won't know that they can be cut off if their address isn't correct. Just a thought.

There is now an announcement at the top of all forums.

You do bring up some valid points and I would like to address them.

First, I'm sorry but we are going to have to disagree regarding the e-mail notices.  Remember, we are talking about a membership to an internet message board.  It is the opinion of the PUT staff that it is not unreasonable to communicate via e-mail.

But, your questions made me poke around into how things were being done.  I noticed that when members were turned off they not only could not come into the member forums; they also couldn't post in the free forums.  That just didn't seem right.

I have gone back and modified the "expired" profile so even though expired mambers can't enter the member forums, they can enter and post in the "free" forums.

I would like to remind everyone that as of February the cost of an Arvee membership was reduced to $19.95, and that includes a subscription to the PUT magazine ( mailed at standard rates).

It will probably be more apparent very soon that the email notice prior to expiration is going to cause membership loss. Considering that the majority of the 834 members (as of this post) have never even made 100 posts and that many of them don't even have 25 post, plenty have never even posted.  The loss will be more than just on this message board, it will affect the magazine as well.

I'm usually right on target with items to do with marketing and sales, after 25 years of it.
