Oops! Big surprise when we popped up

Dewinterizing our rather basic popup is pretty simple.  It lives in our driveway.  Last year we used it in the spring and then not all summer.  We just popped up today and some kind of insect got in and laid what appear to be white eggs or little cocoons on the fabric of the bunk privacy curtains.  They also stained and shredded parts of the curtains and apparently made  two nests.  We saw a few ants, one small spider, and a corpse of a winged ant looking bug.

We can make next weekend's trip without the curtains; the side privacy curtains and canvas are fine.  Is there anywhere I can get replacement curtains?

Actual replacement curtains are probably not available, but any seamstree worth their salt should be able to make a set.

I have seen some neat interiors with custom seat cushons and curtains.

All you probably need to do it take them the old ones to use as a pattern.  Plus, they can cut the clips off the old ones.

Someone has listed Coleman curtains for sale in the classifieds section.  Don't know if they include privacy curtains or not.

oops!  I see you already found the ad!

Your Coleman dealer can sell you replacement curtains, though not in the color your original ones are.  They'll have more current colors.

When I bought my trailer, the curtains were really sunfaded and ugly.  The top decorative ruffle was so stretched out it was sagging about a foot below the track it was attached to.  I replaced them with a courduroy fabric with a lining that really insulates.  I cut the netting and clips from the privacy curtains and sewed the netting right onto my new curtains (I washed everything before I started cutting the old ones apart so I'd be working with clean material).  It was time consuming, but I saved a lot of money and got better quality curtains IMHO than if I bought some from Coleman.  You can buy replacement clips and snaps at Camping World, also.  They come on a strip that you can sew onto the new curtains and they fit right onto the existing track.

Good luck!

I am glad you didn't have any problems with the tenting on the PU.  If you know anyone that sews you could see if they would make you a set of curtains. :)

I have also read on this board that shirt buttons can be used in place of the clips...

My camper has plastic u shaped thingies that slide on a track.  I had to use the hot glue gun to reattach some of the ones that had pulled loose when we close the camper.   They're sewed to the curtain with just one piece of thread, which doesn't have a lot of strength if it gets tugged on.   To be honest, I haven't ever figured out why anyone wold want pink frilly, gauzy valances in a camper, anyway.  But, to remove them, would leave the track exposed, and then you'd have to remove that too.  I think that might leave holes.

Those $%&*#% plastic tabs they use to hold up curtains are a pain. We learned long ago to replace them with buttons.
Yup, buttons. Just find ones that slide in the track without falling out the center opening and sew them to the curtains. They also slide much easier in the tracks to open and close them.

What a lot of great information!  Many thanks to all.  I have saved the little plastic sliders.  DH checked with Restless Wheels today, and the track on our older model is different from later ones.  I can sort of sew, and have a friend who is really good.  Since the pinch pleated top (there isn't a top ruffle or valence) is ok, I am thinking of taking the worst pair and cutting off the bottom and replacing the torn and stained fabric if I can find something that wouldn't look too bad.  The idea of hot glueing the sliders on is great.  I'll take a closer look at our track and see if the button trick would work if I try to make new curtains or purchase and adapt.

Meanwhile, I was so amazed to see the curtains for sale.  I was over there looking for a friend here in MD who wants to buy a used PU.

Thanks again!

Our pop-up curtains were horrible when we got it and I made new curtains.  Measured the old ones and used small buttons, and they worked great.  Pics are on the website.

Thanks for the super idea!  I have a few clips missing and was going to start poking around, trying to figure out a way to replace them!
