Deformed NEW tires

I ordered new tires and received my new tires on Wednesday.  They were strapped together and then wrapped in plastic.  I thought it looked like to small of a package to have 2 tires in it.  I was wrong there were 2 tires under the plastic when I opened it.  The problem is-- Duro strapped the 2 tires together so tightly that the tires became deformed.  The tread and the side walls are bent out of shape, so bad that Sears couldn't mount the tires. :(   I guess we will not have new tires to start the year off.

I hope you have called in a complaint and that you can return the tires. :(

Are you sure Duro strapped them toghether, and not a Sears distribution point?

Tracy - you know me well enough by now that in one of my "previous lives" I worked at a repair shop for seven years.  I of course have not seen your tires in person, but if it's what I'm thinking then they should be safe and able to be mounted.  If they strapped them together with that plastic strip stuff that either is melted closed or stapled closed they should be fine.  Again, I haven't seen them in person.  The deformity should not be a problem.  Trailer tires, ATV tires, and motorcycle tires are a severe PITA to mount.  If they're deformed, it just sounds like the Sears guy didn't or wouldn't take the time to attempt to set the bead.  We have had to go so far as to tie a strap around the circumference of the tire (all around the tread area) to squish the tire to the rim to set the bead.  Maybe the Sears guy only gets an "X amount" of time and/or pay to mount a tire.  I am betting if you went to Joe Blow's Garage in town they would be able to get them on.  Again, I have not seen them...

PS - I know you well enough by now that even if Joe Blow does get them mounted you will not trust them anyway.  So send them back.  :p  ;)

Hi Tracy,

I also had the same problem, these tires come in containers from overseas and they are packed in like sardines, more than likely they were on the bottom. The first set I recieved were totally deformed, not only flattened together sidewall to sidewall but actually deformed at the bead and thred. Before opening my own shop my brother and I both worked for Goodyear and have seen tires shipped like these and even unloaded a few containers. We could not mount these tires at my shop and believe me we tried every which way. I called Duro and they sent me a new set right away, they told me to discard the bad ones, but I still have them. They make a nice conversation piece. The new set will come the same way, it's OK for them to come flattened together sidewall to sidewall as long as they are not deformed. It also helps if you warm them in the hot sun before you take them to be mounted.

Definitely NOT something you should do, but years and years ago, when I worked in a gas station we'd occasionally get tires that wouldn't seal on the bead due to the way they were stacked.

There were two solutions. One way an inflatable collar that would go around the tire and compress the tread and force the beads out to the rim.
When that didn't work the boss pulled out the heavy artillery.....a Spray of ether in the tire and a match. The "explosion" would force the tire onto the bead.
I look back on some of the stuff I've done and wonder why I'm still alive.

I ordered them for a dealer in Las Vegas, NV.  The tires were drop shipped from Duro in Ohio.  I called the Vegas place and talked to the lady there.  She said they get calls on a regular basis and that (like some of you said) I should try a tire shop and see what they say.  I took them to a local tire shop and they said they would fill them with oil filters overnight and that they will be able to mount them.  I will find out tomorrow.

Thanks for your help and suggestions. :)

The tires seem to be just fine.  We put 600 miles on them and we didn't have any problems. :)
