I know I haven't posted much in a long time but I did want to at least come say goodbye.  Tim & I split up, he took the camper and left me with all the bills.  Although we have a tent, my car is way to small to be used to haul any kind of equipment and money will be too tight for awhile trying to get back on my feet.

I learned some much from this board and hopefully some day I'll be able to use it again and hope to be back at the campgrounds as soon as I can.

Happy Camping everyone!

Linda, so sorry to hear the bad and the good news.  The bad news being that he took the camper.  When my two children were growing up we used to tent camp out of the trunk of the car.  It would hold a tent, cooler, food, clothes and some cookware.  Everything went in the trunk and it's amazing how much could really be packed in there.  You will be surprised at how much you can get in a small trunk if you organize and pack carefully.

I wish you well and hope that you are soon doing better than ever.

bummer... Linda, sorry...you must be going through your own kind of hell.  as for leaving you with the bills!!!! ##%$###

I was a broke single mom for many years and tent camped with my two plus their friends.  yours will still have a good time if you continue to share the mystique of camping.

You'll be able to do more overnight camping as I find the popup a hassle for just one night.  Did it last weekend cos the CG was only an hour away from home.

good luck

So sorry to hear about the break up!
We just got an email from our son that our DIL decided that she didn't want to be married to him anymore and was leaving him one of the kids and taking the other! She did this in 1996 and they got divorced and she married someone who ran up $10 grand on her credit card, our son bailed her out, they got remarried in 2001, and now this.
I am really sorry that you got left holding the bills! It just isn't right!
Best wishes for you and maybe you'll be allowed to come around as a "guest" once in a while and post!

I've been convinced to stick around.  I guess my user name fits me again!  I updated my pop-up page, it looks like it still gets plenty of hits.  I saw the ad for the lower-price pop-up in the new issue of PUT last night, maybe in a year or two, I'll be able to swing something like that or another used unit.

Thanks for all the support!

Yehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I am glad that you are staying on ! I always liked your nick ! Sort  of what I wanted to have but better :)

And as for being split, life has a way of working thing out for us. Try not to worry too much about it, I hope the bills won't be too much of a problem.

I don't know where you are, but if you are can make it to the eastern rally, we also tent camp ! I guess that will make the tent camper count to three :)

NightOwl

Linda, what good news that you are staying!  As you've probably noticed, the gang here has broad shoulders and sympathetic hearts whenever anyone has troubles or grief, and so, feel free to stop in if you need to vent or need encouragement.   And, when you feel blue, and just need a spirit pickup, come here and read our wacky  adventure and mis-adventures, and you'll soon be feeling better. :)

Someday you will have a popup again, :S   but until then, I think you've gotten good advice from those encouraging you  to continue to camp--most of us started out in tents with our kids and in some ways, it's even better at building family  relationships.

Linda, so glad to hear you're staying!  I know having a group like this with similar interests and broad shoulders around to just talk to back when I went through my divorce years ago would certainly have helped me!  I'm one of those who, even though I love my PU, I do still love tent camping too, so don't let not having the PU stop you from camping!   Campfires are the same no matter what you sleep in!  :>

Glad to hear that you've been convinced to stay with us.   No matter what happens, if camping is a good outlet for your family, you'll find a way to do it.  During our "lean" years, we did our camping out of the back of a station wagon, the back of our pickup truck, with a tent and without one.   At one time we had a small triangle shaped two man pup tent, and a small two man dome tent, and we made do for the 5 of us in those (even in the rain).  We carried our gear in those old style waxed beer cases with the flip lids, and did all cooking over the campfire (even in the rain).  And we have good memories of those trips, they just helped us decide what our priorities would be for when times got better.  Which, they always do!

I have two beach campouts (May and June) that will involve tenting...if nothing else it makes you appreciate the bed on your popup!

I'm going to take my new camp-rite tent cot and put it in my new Wenzel hex screen room.

I'll take camping ANY way it comes....

garym053

That's great news!!!
There are several trips a year that we do in a tent, mostly due to the roads we have to travel, and I enjoy those tenting trips just as much and sometimes more than in the pop-up!
As others have said, things have a way of working out, and I pray your situation will work out just fine for you and the girls and the dog!

if your trunk is to small, get a roof carrier bag! thats what we use to use, put the air mattress, folding chairs, sleep bags, light big stuff up on the roof, so its easy to get it up and down. tent , in the trunk!

It can be done, all us single parents have done it!

iwantapopup

I have been thinking of a roof top bag.  There was a hard side roof carrier that someone gave us but ...ahem...it left with the camper!  He did give me my camping gear back so I feel better.  Most of it was bought before we married.

I think we found a place to move so I'm pretty excited.  It's hard when the landlord gets in your face and say's "are you going to be out by May 1?"  I found a 2 bedroom mobile home that I can afford.  I'll have to sleep on a sofa sleeper but the girls will have a room and it's not forever, but it will work for now.

I figure we should at least be on our feet enough to afford a couple fall weekend trips.  I won't sleep in the heat and humidity without a/c; done it before and didn't like it!

Birol, the east rally is too far to consider this year money wise.  But I really don't mind tent camping at all, and I can cook in a dutch oven!  I'm glad you like my "name" it suits me again!

Thanks for all the support everyone!

Linda

I missed this when you first posted it and I am sorry.  I hope you get things under control and get back to camping soon. :tent:
