Gone-Camping

Saturday night!!!

Yes we're still here! It seems Mother Nature decided to spare us the deluge that was promised, and she is apparently saving it for Sunday morning so that everyone get's to deal with packing away some wet canvas! Well, everyone except ACER and JAB who have full hard side units.

For those unaware, ACER bought a Class-A MH 2 years ago just before the Westmoreland gig. He may be in a big old boat on wheels, but he's still one of us at heart!

More recently, JAB traded in his PU and bought a 28' Flaggstaff TT with slide-out. It's big, and it's nice!

Tonights Pot-Luck dinner went off very well. We had two of the group memebers (Budman & Hoosier) skip the dinner, but everyone else was there including StateParkGrl and her extended family.

I also need to thank Louise too, for prodding me into using the dining facility instead of holding the potluck at a campsite. We were under the threat of rain all afternoon (though we only got a couple of sprinkles), but it was also kind of cold. The facility had heat, a fireplace, a big kitchen, and it was huge!It certainly worked out to our advantage, as I think most of us would have been miserable holding this outside!

We had the drawing for three prizes.

First prize were a 10 pack of Lynx Levelers donated by PUX, and won by newbie Karlyn & family.

Second prize were a set of "Baseball" tacky lights also donated by PUX, which was won by former PUT member Photospread!

Third prize was donated by ACER & myself, a 10 string of mini-Coleman Lantern Tacky lights, they were won by TJW SantaFe (Tim & Penny)....

Yep, Tim couldn't thank me enough. He kept saying "Five years without having to set-up tacky lights, five years....thanks Cliff" .... You think he was pleased?? :D

Overall things went very well. We did have two people show up late on Friday, and it turns out they didn't post their reservation numbers here on PUT, and somehow wound up on the other side of the campground. Due to that and some cancelations on previous outings, Louise is going to change the way we sign up, at least when dealing with Virginia State Parks. We'll announce more about that on the new Westmoreland trip thread.

It's late now, most everyone has turned in, but I can hear someone outside talking, so I'm probably going to go back out and see who's still up!

Looks like the cell phone/internet hookup is working too! Glad you're having fun. We'll be at a CG next weekend.....finally.

:S :S :S

Cliff, it's posts like this about ACTUAL camping that  help make you such a  valued member here! :)   And, it  reminds us of the fun  that cyber-campers from This 'Hood   have when they get together  in the flesh!  :W

Thanks Elisa!

Now that I'm home, I can clearly say that it's nice to be on a regular connection. My cell phone connection is the el-cheapo variety that connects at 14.4k, but it'll have to do for the time being.

I didn't get pictures of the two campsite's that wound up on the other side of the campground, but did get their picture at the Pot Luck dinner! Once again, my aplogies to Jeff Kahuna and Heider713 (?) for the foul-up in the reservations. We'll file this one under lessons learned, plus Louise will re-invent the wheel for the next group outing, as she had similar problems in the past (Westmoreland).

And for those of you that haven't heard, Louise is spearheading another Mid-Atlantic mini-rally back at Westmoreland for late September. Keep you eye on the mid-Atlantic Camper section for more info on this one.

Well, 4 days & 3 nights to kick off the season for me, not a bad way to get started! Couple that with catching up with some old friends, and making some new ones as well. We had 2 or 3 families making their first 'Rally' and they seemed to be impressed with it. I think all three have indicated a desire to attend the Westmoreland trip in September.

My season fortunately, doesn't have a lot of trips planned this year as the $$$ is tight, we'll just play it by ear and see what happens. My next planned trip out will be to Ocean Waves Campground for Memorial Day Weekend.
Oh, for those of you following these threads. Mother Nature must have been looking out for us this weekend. Aside from a sprinkle or two on Saturday afternoon, and another sprinkle during the night, she held off giving us the all day rain that was in the forecast. We had until 3pm to check out, but with the rain in the forecast and relatively dry morning conditions, everyone took advantage of the lack of rain to get closed down before they did get caught by rain. So not too much in the way of wet canvas this week, just some mildly damp tops!
