I am NOT SO flipping mad anymore

I know this should be the least of my worries with all the hardships that many members of this board are enduring, but I am SO mad!

We have a local swim club that I sent an application to last year. You have to get two current members to vouch for you. I got one friend and then my friend offered to sign it and drop off the application when she went to the pool everyday last June with her kids. I never heard anything and never bothered to check if my check was cashed. I just assumed they would cash the check when they processed new applications this year. I heard stories that they were not that organized and don't communicate well.

I called this year to find out the status of my application and they have no records of my application. Now, I'm not even on the LONG wait list. So much for going swimming with the kids after work during the week while we wait for the next camping trip!!! It was going to be a nice distraction! :D

Now, to kill the friend or not to kill the friend... Was it HER fault or the young kid behind the desk at the pool!? I don't think I'll ever know. I am so bummed, but not as bummed as my husband is going to be when I tell him tonight.

It would upset me too ! You should have raised your voice little bit and demand to talk with the maneger, maybe that would help ?

Have you already checked with your friend to see if she did, in fact, turn in your application? You could call and ask her, saying that the club didn't have any record of your application, and you need to know if she turned it in so that you can stop payment on your check. If she didn't turn it in and she's truly a friend, she'll probably sheepishly admit that she forgot or some other excuse along those lines. If she did turn it in, you probably really will need to stop payment on your lost check, but at least you won't have unjustly chewed out your friend and lost a friendship too. :)

Actually, niether! It was in a sense your own fault for not taking it there yourself. While I understand the friend was going to do you a favor, I've always followed the philosophy that if you want it done right, ya gotta do it yourself!!!

Amen Gone Camping.  I SHOULD have taken it there myself.  I can't really blame anyone else but me, and I think that's why I'm so ticked.  My DH took it much better than I thought he would, so we'll get through this summer just like all the other summers...  We'll just CAMP MORE!   :D

What's the status of your check that you gave to the friend?

See who cashed it.

I hope no one, even putting a stop payment on a cheque costs money. Did you ASK your friend  if she dropped it ? Maybe she forgot and is too ashamed to tell you, you might save whatever bucks it costs to have a stop payment put on the cheque.

The check is still outstanding, but it was only for $25 -- the fee to process my application.  I'm not going to waste money to stop the check because that would nearly as much.  I wrote that check last June or July.  I'm sure it's LONG gone since then and I'm not even worried about it anymore.

My friend specifically told me she gave it to the office at the pool the day she did it, so I think it was accidentally thrown away in the office.  I have to believe my friend on this one, no matter how ticked I might be. Even if I had been the one to take my application to the office, it could have gotten lost.  I can TRY fighting this with the swim club, but I don't think it's worth my time or energy.

Being working parents, we wouldn't have had much time to go to the pool anyway.  We just thought it would have been a fun thing to do a couple nights a week after work or on the off weekends we weren't camping.  And now that I'm thinking about it, the $350 for the summer fee plus the bond to join would have been A LOT of money for the amount of time we would get to spend there.  For that kind of money, I could pick up one of those inflatable ring pools with the filter EVERY year and have fun in our own back yard!

I guess I should be happy!

Wow! I hope it's a REALLY nice pool!!!

Just a suggestion, isn't there any other type of place near by?  (family membership for Kings Island for around $300-400 and enjoy it at nights and on weekends).

Maybe it is possible to put a 15' pool in the yard.  We did that several years ago and up to a few years ago, we enjoyed it a lot in the evenings.  It isn't very big, but when the temps are high or just to get in and have a nice old water fight, it was well worth the $1,000.  We've had ours for about 10+ years and about 3yrs ago, a small tear in the liner and DH just hasn't gotten out there to fix it.  Even the older DD's wish we could get it back up even though it is small.  I keep telling DH that if he doesn't plan on working on it, we should just get rid of it.

Yeah, the $350 is pretty steep, but it is a swim "club" with activities for the kids, playgrounds, basketball and vollyball courts.  There are places to picnic and/or barbeque.  It will be nice if we ever do get in, but we'll survive not going also.  There are a couple other swim clubs that I might look into or just get a pool for the back yard.  Bottom line is... That's just $350 more to spend on camping vacations this season if we don't do anything else!  Life WILL go on!
