What A Weekend We Had.....

When I got off work Friday, I heard the weather forcast had changed.  Rain had moved out, and would not return till Sunday afternoon.  I was excited and called DH to see if he could get someone to work for him.  Luckily, our oldest DD's boyfriend works at Dick's in the same department and he said sure no problem.

We wanted to take out the camper to check things out since we just had some minor warranty work done over the winter so we felt this would be the perfect opportunity.

Loaded up and took off.  Got to CG and went to fill the water tank and realized we forget about not flushing the system from winterizing and started to do it there at the water station.  Dh went to use the outside shower to run water thru the hot water heater and such so we didn't have to set up to get the water running and what happens, the shower head snaps off.  He was able to let it run out of the end.

The CG was empty, so we had our choice of spots.

We got to a section of our favorite loop and just picked a spot, a lot of them sites were pretty flooded, but we found one that was in great shape.

Started to set up camper, opened the awning only to find mildew all over it, then when we got inside, there was water all over the floor.  Thinkng great one of the faucets must have come open over the winter and when we turned on and when the we turned on the water pump, that's were all the water came from.  So I spent a while getting all the water.

Went to go to bed and realized that the sleepingbags were left at home since we took them out to wash over the winter.  The only covers we had was flat sheet and temps dropped to mid 40's in town, so that means colder at the CG.

Woke up Saturday, DH had to take a trip into town (to meet a window guy for this house he's been doing some minor repairs on while the owner is in a nursing home).  On the way, one of the tow mirrors flew off while on the expressway, so he turned around to pick it up and someone had beat him to it.:( .

While he was gone, I wanted to clean up inside and started the water pump and whil cleaning the sink, water started coming from the "water filter" spiket; ran to swithc and turned off pump.  Great and hour getting all the water out of the cabinet and floor of the PU.  Called DH and he said it was most probably just loose and he'd take care of it when he got back.

Meanwhile, a strong wind came and guess what, we forgot to stake down the awning, so over the PU it went.  When DH got back, we got it down and put away.  The awning pole has a tip that fits into a socket on the PU and the tip on the pole broke off, so now we have to replace it.

DH checked out the water filter and disassembled only to find out that it had cracked.  He bypassed the filter and I then proceeded to try to clean AGAIN.

Was running water when all of a sudden water started coming from the faucet all over the place AGAIN:swear: .

So now we have no water in the camper, no bucket or water container to go get water, never realized how much I depended on that water tank.

Rest of the day went pretty much uneventful, except around 9:30 rain, thunder, lightening came in and rained hard and long.  Woke up Sunday hoping the rain and stopped and guess what... NO.... Went out around 10:30 and it let up enough to get torn down, expect it was still wet, so we planned on getting it set up Monday to get it dried out.

Started home and about 15min into ther 40min drive home, we have no oil pressure; pulled over to check oil and everything OK, started up again and drove about 2min and again no oil pressure.

Got on our cells and started calling everyone we could think of who could tow, and 1 who lived the closest just had the TV re-ended and the hitch is scheduled to be put back on this week sometime.  One no answer, one wife was at work; offered when she got off work (thanks Viking99).  Called the tow truck and asked about towing the PU with truck with one on the flat bed.  He wasn't sure if he could do that, but he'd work something out when he got there.  Finally got ahold of our oldest DD's boyfriend's father and he said no problem and he came out within the hour.

We got a call from the tow truck driver that he was just about there to get the truck at 3pm (mind you we called him before noon and he said he would be on his way by 1pm, which should have put him there between 1:30 and 2).  Then 3:30 comes and the driver asks me to look in owners manual (which DH left in the house) and to see how to tow it since it's a 4x4.  I read him the instructions which are different then what is over the visor, do I don't know how he towed it.

DH had to go into Dicks to work inventory at 3pm and didn't get off till 2am this morning.

Needless to say, we did not have a great weekend.

TOP THAT!!!:banghead: :swear: :banghead::swear::banghead::swear:

Nancy, so sorry to hear bout your weekend adventures.  I know you were hoping for a good trip.   Is your theme song "If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all"?  Sorry, didn't mean to tease you, but that tune just hit me, and it seemed to fit.   I hope that everything gets straightened out, and your next trip goes well.

No news, but in our case, we can't use the term "no news is good news"

Well...hopefully you got all the bad things out of the way in your first trip!  You should have fulfilled your bad luck quota after that weekend....LOL...Now..you and Tom should be ready for a terrific camping season!  :yikes:

Some trips are only for working the kinks out in the camper.  Now with all fixed soon, it should be smooth camping from here on out.

Sorry to hear about your weekend. Sounds a little like mine last year. Anyhow I wrote this earier..http://www.arveeclub.com/showthread.php?t=51722

I only made it as far as the driveway.  Pulled the camper off the grass and set it up for the first time this year.  One of the girls wanted to sleep in it Sat night, so I left it up.  Then she decided that she did not want to about 10:00 pm.  So we got a wet camper from the same storm Sunday morning.  Right now things are dry and windy, hope things stay that way till I can get home to put it down.

Nancy, sounds like an even more  demented version of one of those "Chebby Chase" Vacation Films!

Well, I'm like the others--it can only get better from here on in.! :)

Actually I have thought of other things that could have also happened, so it could get worse.:yikes:

Got the TV back last night.... towing $101.00, sending switch $69.95 (no breakdown on labor, maybe since the towing is high, they by-passed it - we have them do all the work that DH can't do, plus the manager, our youngest DD tutored her several years ago.

I am glad it is over with, albeit with a 160+  missing from your pocket. The engine could have been damaged and need very costly repairs ! Now that things seem to be getting back to normal, when is the next trip ? :)

Hoping in May, next 2 weekends we have auctions to work
