Shortly after moving up from our tent to our beloved PU a couple of years ago I discovered Geocaching. As I love both camping & caching, as well as biking & hiking I was hard pressed to find time for all on their own time. So it was time to get creative.

Last year on one of our annual "man trips" we decided to do a 4 day camping trip with Geocaching being the main activity/theme/destination.

Using the PU as a base camp we had planned out 4 days of varied Caching. This included all types of caches from easy Virturals to difficult climbs. We hiked to many varied caches, MtnBiked to a Ghost towns and even had to canoe to an island for a cache (in a thunderstorm). We dubbed our trip the PU / Geo - Triathalon. We had a blast and I have some campfire stories to tell about our adventures.

I have had a few more trips with and without the DW with this same theme. I have found that plotting out interesting cache locations in advance and pointing my TV/PU in that direction has lead me to discover new camping spots, in new areas that I would not have had a reason to go to before the GPS.

I am preparing to plan out another journey or two heading away from home here in N. E. PA. Not sure what direction or when yet but I'm sure it will be interesting.

So, have any of you planned you trips with Geocaching as the main theme/activity? If so tell us about it.

Has anyone given thought to a mini-PU rally of PU/Geocahcing enthuiasts? Or has this already been done.

Imagine, caching, camping, a hot shower and a great meal w/beverage at the end of the day. Don't forget those great campfire stories of conquest and discovery and of course that NICE comfortable bed to roll into at days end.

So let's hear it.

We always try to find a cache when we go camping or vacation, but it is usually limited to just 1 or 2 caches.  I really like the idea you have of searching for caches first, then hunt a camping site.  We are lucky that so many caches have been located where we like to visit in the North Carolina mountians near Asheville.

On a side note, my dad, son, and I just returned from New York City and found two traditional caches in Central Park.  Those now rank as my favorite finds.

Hi everyone,

I am new to this site but I have been geocaching for over a year now and my husband and I have just started looking around to buy a camper.  When searching around on google this website came up and I am very excited to see two of my favorite things combined on one site GEOCACHING AND CAMPING  :)

I thought I would post to inform everyone of the Geo Bash this weekend at Harrison Lake in Ohio.  I believe we are expecting around 500 geocachers to camp for the weekend.  I know you can find the cache page on geocaching.com.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  Hope to see some of you there.
