Can anyone recommend a nice campground on Oneida Lake?  I'm interested in the Sylvan Beach area, my grandparents spent every summer there for years and years.  I have great memories of the area and I would like to camp there this summer.  Thanks!! :)

Try the closest state campground... Verona Beach State Park.  (//www.reserveamerica.com).
I have a list of several other private campgrounds there as well, but I prefer the state run around here.

We just stayed at Ta-Ga-Soke Campground outside of Sylvan Beach, NY on Columbus Day weekend.  It's 10 min outside of town.  Lovely campground, clean bathhouses, store, little outside icecream stand, on Fish Creek.  There are mostly seasonal sites there with the big campers, but there are a few overnight sites right on the creek.  During the summer season these sites are right across from the rented boat docks, so it probably would be pretty busy.  Overnight sites are pretty much sunny.  Swimming in Fish Creek with a sandy beach.

There are three other private campgrounds at Sylvan Beach that I know of besides Ta-Ga-Soke and Verona Beach State Campground (nice campground too but not much privacy between sites, swimming in Oneida Lake).  One is called The Landing Campground, and one called Treasure Isle RV Park both of which probably are seasonal parks, but I'm not sure.  A new one also opened up this summer (2004) called the Mayfair. I don't know anything about this last one.

Sylvan Beach has it's old fashioned amusement park right in the village right on the shore of Oneida Lake, NY.  At Yesterday's Royal (a lovely restored inn and restaurant) they have "who done it" dinner theater during the summer months.  My children's music teacher is one of the managers there.

For a lot more information on Sylvan Beach there is a little booklet called "The Beach" which probably could be gotten from the Chamber of Commerce.

It's a great place!

Mayfair Campground in my opinion is the best if you cant get into the state park.  It is quite and has lots of room between sites.  Web site is mayfaircampground.com, site has pictures online.  Great place to go.  Me and the family go there a few times a year.  Almost all the sites are on the water very few exceptions.  In anycase.  I'd pick Mayfaircampground or Verona Beach state park.

Ta-ga-soke is to crowded, sites are very small and nothing near the water.  You have to pay for the showers,

Landing campground is just run down.

State park is Clean and hard to get into on holidays.

Mayfair campground is on the water are in the Country.  Quite and perfect if you can't get into the state park.
