Well, DH has decided we have to sell our brand new pop-up. Although he finally did get a job, it is for less money per hour. I am so bummed! We didn't even get to camp in it yet. By the time all the things that had gone wrong with it were finally fixed, it was too cold to camp. I never got to try the shower or see what a big impact the slideout had spacewise or anything! He absolutely refuses to sell his Mustang, so he says my brand new pop-up is to go first. Not happy here!

I can't believe he wants to sell the PU after all you have been through getting it.  I am so sorry to hear this.  Will you get another PU?

jpreiser

Wow, sorry to hear about this... tell him he will get so much more money for the mustang then the pop up.. also remind him how comfortable the "dog house" is :):)

I agree that the Mustang should be the first to go.  Depending on the year and condition, it definitely can bring a lot more money.  Go to NADA and get the average retails and show to DH

birol

Why does it have to be sold ? Can it really not be paid ? or does he just want to sell it for reasons of his own  .....

Acts 2:38 girl

WOW! After all that frusturation!  You poor girl!  And brand new too.  :(   Well hopefully you can find a good 2nd hand one to use.

MPTDAT

He says we won't get any money out of it, but at least we won't have that extra payment. I agree that the Mustang should be the first to go as it is an "extra" car. He says that he worked too hard to get it. We owe money on that too! If anyone is interested, we are in the metro-Detroit area. Here are the specifics:

2004 Viking Legend 2465 ST:
Never Used!!
12' Box
Screen Room
4-bike bike rack
Furnace
Refrigerater
Slide-Out dinette
king and queen beds
dinette folds down to double
hot running water
shower
cassette toilet

Not sure how much he is asking yet!! We paid around $10,000. Too scared to list it in the classifieds yet!! I am sooooooooooooooooo bummed!!

Oh My!!!!!!!

Really sorry to hear about this.  I am sure you all will decide what is best.  It is a tough time economically for a lot of folks.  We all have to do the best we can.  Good luck to you!

Since it seems like a definite on the selling, don't forget to post at GLPUC.

Isn't your name on it as well ? The way I see it, this is a family unit, where as Mustang is just for him. I wonder what makes him so ticked off not to want to camp anymore  ......

MPTDAT

It isn't that he is ticked off not to want to camp anymore. He just said that we aren't going to be able to afford any kind of vacations this year or if he can get any time off of work. He just started a new job and he is interviewing for a second. He likes his vacations paid! He won't get a paid vacation until he has been there for at least a year. On the bright side, if we get the amount to pay it off, (we have paid on it for almost a year), next year we can go to anyone besides Walt Michal's and get another pop-up. Maybe it could be better than the one we have. Who knows! He actually has in the last couple of days mentioned that he just might have to sell the Mustang. He isn't happy because he just finished fixing it up. He had to have the tranny rebuilt.

Even with a new job, you could still get away for a weekend here and there.  It would be a great stress relief to just "get away'.  Plus if you've only paid on it for a year, then you have been paying mainly interest, so you will still be in the hole and that isn't worth it.

David Roder

Sorry to hear about this.  The mustang is definately his thing and the pop-up is something you both will enjoy but obviously you like it more than him.  the only thing I would ask is why does one have to sacrifice and not the other?  If the pu goes, the stang goes.  Money is obviously a concern here so another tip here is, the mustang will be nothing but a drain on the wallet.  You will never get to the point where he will say I think that's all it needs... just my .02

birol

My guess is, just the insurance on Mustang would either pay or cover most of the payments of the PU. Make the calculation ..... Of course there might be more to it then meets the eye.

Jeffrey

Well since everyone else is sticking their nose in this, so will I.

78 Mustang or New PU, I won't even guess which is worth more without seeing it. It could be either one?
Old classic cars can't be looked up in a book to get the value.
It all depends on condition and the model. It's only worth what someone will pay, and to sell it in a rush, would mean probably selling it cheap.

New PU's are everywhere, dealers are full of them... Very easily replaced.

A Classic car that has been rebuilt, is not everywhere. And are usually not easy to replace. Especially if the one you have is exactly the one you want.

Car Insurance can be stopped and started whenever you want, since this is not a vehicle you need to drive. So that means nothing....

So which one would I sell? Probably the PU, since you could still camp in anything older PU, rented camper cabin, or tent. And when things look better you'll find a new PU easily.

The car on the other hand, could take a long time to find, and hard work to rebuild another.
