Someone posted about modifying a BAL Leveler for 12" tires. My tires are not 12" but after three incidents now, I would propose the following mod:
Glue or epoxy some rubber or other slip resisitant surface to the plates that contact the tires! AND drive some good metal tent stakes into the ground beside the BAL leveler!
Three times I have had the BAL cranked up to within the top 2/3's of the threads and all three times the tires have slipped down the plates, kicking the BAL Leveler out to the side. The third time happened today as I was getting ready to close it and released the stabalizers! As soon as I released the back stabalizer on the BAL side, the tire slid down the plates, pushing the BAL out to the side of the tire.
I feel this could be a dangerous situation, especially with kids and or pets! I will either glue some Rubber to the plates or have my BIL put some welded beads on the plates to help grip the tires!

Wow that is scary.  What size tires do you have?  Do you have the BAL all the way under the tires, so that the whole tire rest on the plates?  I haven't noticed any instability with my unit. :(

I have 10 inch tires and I have cranked that baby all of the way to the top without any problems.  I too have not noticed any problems with it.

Thank you for that warning.  I was thinking of putting some pressure treated wood on the pads so that the pads would make better contact with the tires. You just convinced me that I should do that before using it.  I hope you didn't damage your Pop-Up when the leveler slipped out like that.  I can't imagine how scary that must be.

No I haven't damaged the camper, it never quite slips all the way off! It does concern me when I'm there beside it cranking away though! It is still easier than stacking boards or Lynx Leveler, etc. But I would be careful when cranking it up high!

To date - cross my fingers, knockin' on wood - we have not had a problem either with our BAL leveler and 12" tires. I would suggest writing to the company. Maybe you have a defective product?

Have you seen the custom "Pizza bags" that Dno has in the PUT store for the BAL leveler?? Takes care of the "messy" issue...
