I am going to arrange for insurance today for the PU.

Do I want the comprehensive/collision at 120 C$ bucks a year or just theft/vandalism/fire for 40 C$ a year ? Liability is covered by the towing vejicles insurance already.

Any opinions ? The PU is costing me only 435 usd (650 C$)  bucks ........ 120 C$ will pay me 1,000 bucks if I wreck it or someone else wrecks it .......

I would lean toward spending the minimum amount for insurance for such an old camper.  It would seem silly to me to pay more in insurance than I did on the camper.

We pay $76 a year for our coverage on our PU.  That gives us Broad form comprehensive-actual cash value ($3800),  Collision  $100 deductible, $380 personal effects protection, $250 fire department service protection, $25 per day vacation expense.  Also towing as applies to our vehicle, to the nearest service center.   We have this as a part of our combined auto and home owner's thru Farm Bureau.   But, now that I've started this post, I don't remember just what those terms on towing are, will have to go and check the policy to refresh my memory.  will get back to you on that.

Not knowing how Canadian insurance works, and it also differs from company to company, here's how ours works...

As long as the PU is attached to the TV. It would be completely covered; however, sitting the the driveway or at a CG or somehow comes off the hitch we would be S.O.L..  Even with our old PU, we had to fully covered as we felt the small amount extra a year would be worth it if something should happen.  We at least would have a good start on another PU if not pay for another old one.  Also, if it did come off the hitch and do damage to someone's property, we would be responsible (piece of mind for a home owner).  Ours was also about $65/year.  Now with the new PU, our insurance is $120/year.

Maybe call around and get other quotes before deciding.

Also, we did find out that with our full coverage, if say an animal tore up the canvas while we were camping, the canvas would be replaced.

My TV insurance covers liability and I added collision. When detached from the tow vehicle my homeowners covers the camper, even in a campground.
I pay around $18 per month for my new hybrid and all of that was on the auto portion of the policy for collision. Not positive about that number though, I think it may be lower.

I'd pay the lowest.  Because of it's age, the camper's value is minimal.  (Monetary value, dear B, not sentimental value!  We all know that it's really priceless)

We personally don't have insurance on ours.  Yes, it's covered completely when hooked to tow vehicle.

Hmmm.... That's interesting.  I am going to check this out some more in relation to our own homeowners ins.  Since we store our pu in the garage, I imagine ours would be covered if it was damaged while in the garage.

A little OT but still insurance related... We found out several years ago that most homeowners insurance covers any damage done to someone else or someone else's property by your pet.

While visiting my mother with our dog, my mothers cat literally scratched our dogs eye out.  The claw slit the eyeball open went into the eye and hooked onto the retina and pulled it part way out.  The vet bill was almost $1000 to make the repairs and save our dogs eye.  My mother's homeowners insurance covered the cost.  As they put it... My mother's cat is considered "property" which damaged my "property"... our dog.  It was considered the same as if my mother's tree had fallen in the neighbors yard and damaged their fence.

My homeowners Insurance at the CG not only covers my camper but also provides me with liability coverage at the CG. I am mostly concerned with the liability aspect at the CG. My chihuahua might attack a St Bernard or something.;)
