Help finding flagpole for camper

After returning from the campgrounds at Lowe's Motor Speedway, I know that I need something to make our camper complete: a flagpole.  Everyone has one or more flagpoles with their favorite driver and a US flag at the top.

Has anyone made a stand and flagpole?  Is there a good place to buy one?  I found a flagpole stand that is held up by a tire from the camper at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=20506&item=4305252721.  It seems a little expensive, but I have yet to find a cheaper option.

I think I can make my flagpole out of 2 pieces of pvc pipe.  One online article I read descirbed such a pole.  They drilled two holes that could be held in place either extended or retracted by a D-ring.

Please let me know if there are some good options out there.

Thanks

Camping World has them , 20ft top flight telescoping pole and the stand is a metal tube welded to a flat piece of steel and you put it under the PU'swheel to hold it! if you want to buy it 150 for pole, 40 for the stand, :eyecrazy:

i think you can make it for alot less!

found this place too, cheaper

Sal made a pole to hold our NCC signs and used an umbrella stand. They are much cheeper and you don't need to put them under anything to keep them from falling over. The one we have is the heavy solid metal one, but I guess you can also use the ones you fill with water or sand for a lighter travel weight. For the pole he used a wooden dowel and put a couple of pegs extending outward to hold the signs. I guess you could also use a wooden dowel just attach one of those flag pole brackets that you use on your house.

Good Luck

Hey there, JFJ! Hope you enjoyed your first camping trip to LMS! We got back yesterday evening after 11 days & nights of camping and racing! Had a great time!

Rather than try to get a big flagpole, we have driver flags designed to be hung vertically. We use the "rafter" poles for the awning to hold them...two on each side. I also have an American flag we fly. I bought a flag kit from Wal-Mart that included the flag and a small metal flag pole. I use good ol' duct tape to attach the flag pole to one of the awning support poles. Of course, it's not as high as most of the flags you see, but I don't worry as much about it blowing over in a high wind.

They do say a picture is worth a thousand words:

The easiest thing to use is an extendable, aluminum painters' pole (Home Depot) which can be velcro strapped to either an awning pole or a metal roof cable lifter cover. We use a 15' one to raise our amplified antenna over the roof of the popup. As they compress, they can easily be stored inside the popup when breaking camp and they don't weigh very much. Put one flag on each and you're in business for about $12 each.

I second the Painters pole. Have one I use for flagpole. It doubled as a rigid, center roof beam for my aux. tarp too. Just drilled a couple of holes to accept the inexpensive, extendable tent poles. Very light and easy to store, just bungee it to my frame behind my propane tank.

Great for knocking apples out of trees too.

Thanks for all of your help!  I really like the painters pole idea for both the flag and the tv antenna.  I think that is what we may go with.

Also, thank you labontefan for the photos!  I like the flags attached vertically, too.  We may do both as we collect more.  I saw you have a Kawasaki generator.  I looked at one recently for just over $1000.  The salesman did not know alot about it, but I believe it also has quiet technology like the Yamaha's I have been looking at. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11771&item=3817964025&rd=1  How do you like your generator?  I know that we will need one if we plan on camping more the race tracks (It was HOT).  I know I can get a cheaper generator at Lowes or Home Depot, but I would like one quiet enough that we could use it camping at some of the state and national parks.

Thanks again for all of your help!

I found a painters pole at Lowes that I think will work out great.  The pole is 12' long when extended and is very light weight, but strong.  I had at one point considered using narrow pvc pipe that I could collapse for storage, but when compaired to the painters pole, they were way too heavy.  I also bought 2 strong Velcro straps to attach the pole to one of the lifter poles.  My Jayco has a vinyl cover over the pole, so it should help keep the velcro from slipping.

The whole thing cost less than $20.00.

Now to ebay to get some flags to go with my US flag and NC State Wolfpack flag.

I will get photos as soon as we try it at our next camping trip in 2 weeks.

Thanks
