kOOLERAIRE... ANY USE THIS

I can remember when I started here, someone asked about this and I finally came across this again.  I was just curious if anyone has used this or have heard any comments.  We have a friend looking for a PU, but wants an a/c and the very max they want to pay is $3,000.. looking around, they are just not there for under $3,000.  I was hoping this may be a solution for them.

I just don't know anything about them, I can remember someone either asking if anyone had used the Koolaire or that they had used it, but that was 3 years ago (I guess they can't be too bad is they are still around).

I would think the ice would melt too fast, with fans blowing warm on it to cool.

I could see if you were only spending a few hours on a boat.

But for a whole weekend camping, you'd need a trailer full of ice to keep replacing it. Or if you bought ice, you'd have a AC paid for in one summer.

That would blow some cold air over you as long as you keep it fed with ice.  However, the one thing it doesn't do which has a big impact on personal comfort is deal with humidity.

I probably wouldn't buy one.  You can buy those spray misters at Wal-Mart for about $5 that has a battery operated fan attached to a spray bottle that would probably work about the same.

I do agree with Jeffrey and Jim, I would not use as an all over a/c, but for those times, when the temps are just unbearable.  If a block of ice was used, it would last a lot longer then a bag.
 
Locally when we camp, the main time around here would be in the afternoons.
 
We personally have a/c so it's not for me.

FIL bought one years ago. What a joke. Filled to the max with ice it lasted just over 2 hours, spewed out so much moisture it had everything covered, and you couldn't tell it was working unless you leaned over the fan outlet and then your face got wet.

Figure on apx 200 pounds of ice per day and having everything damp and still hot.
