We live within spitting distance (1/2 mile) of downtown Cincinnati.  We have deer across the street from our house.  It is a treasure seeing it, however, we have so many deer hit in the area because of the developement boom is what they say.  It's just sad to hear of them being hit.

I know this is going to raise a stink but I'm going to say it just to vent. If you want to flame me go ahead I've got a thick skin. Ok if you ask me deer are no better than a rats.   They destroy property, eat any kind of garden you try to raise, and carry disease YES disease. If state governments were required to repair or replace vehicles that are damaged by them the populations would be controlled better. They are ok to look at but thats about it. As far as hunting them, why??? If I had the choice between a nice beef steak or a long legged rat, I would pick the beef. BEEF It's what's for dinner. :)

Hmm,

You are probably right .... if you point to me the sentence you think I should flame, I might give it a half hearted try though :eyecrazy:  :yikes:  :p

Ok Birol, give me all you got. After a hard day of working on Finally you'll feel better. :)   ;)

I am not very fond of rats, but squirrels are also like rats :) And both squirrels and deer look beautiful to me :)

There you go, I hope that hurt a lot :)

Actually, that deer (OK, well maybe not that one!) is one of the reason why I'm not even going to attempt a vegtable garden!  With all the fencing that will have to go up - it's not worth it!  Although I am going to try to grow tomatoes in a pot in the front yard!

I wish I was there to see it!

As for a fence to keep deer out of the garden, why not just put up a fence right around the garden instead of around your entire yard? You could probably get one of the chicken-wire-type metal fences that attach to metal stakes that you just hammer into the ground.  That system is not to expensive, but should deter the deer.

We have a lot of deer here too. There is a lot of car-deer accidents. It would take a tall fence to keep them out. They can jump a regular fence. The raccoons are what give me problems in my garden. I can not plant corn. They tear it up before it gets ripe. They also tear up my wife's bird feeders.

Do you guys ever worry about ticks with having deer coming through your yard?  Considering all those precious little ones, I'd be a bit worried about the ticks, course there are precautions you can take for the kids and the yard.  We have mosquito problems here, and it doesn't make me keep the kids inside, we just put on bug spray, and do all the stuff to get rid of standing water etc.

As for eating deer, we're from the south, we eat squirrels too, although I've never eaten a rat, at least not to my knowledge, and would not do so willingly.  I don't hate deer, they taste great with gravy.

I think the picture is pretty cool.  And always remember, the deer were there before your house was!

I'd be more concerned about ticks off of trees.... the first several times we camped, we picked at least 6 off of us... we've never had that problem before.

I hope we never get to meet a tick ! How am I gonna remove them ? I am telling you, one attaches to us, one of you will have to remove it !!!

You sure about that Birol?  They usually start their process of finding a nice attachment spot around the ankles, if they don't like the socks they head north.  They have been known to find a nice cozy home in the "nether" regions if you know what I mean.  You know we love you, but do you really want us to know you THAT well?
