Hi!  I have been "lurking" this site for about three years now--this is my first post.  I have always (in the past) been able to find the information I needed.  I must be losing my touch because I can't find any checklist of what to pack.  We are leaving for a week long camping trip to Bandy Creek Campground in Tennessee on Sunday.  Our son turned three yesterday (also have a nine month old) so I have been in birthday party mode all week.  I am now switching gears and need to get packed.  Any tips on camping with the little ones and/or links to checklists would be wonderful.  Also, where to get insurance?  I currently have it through my auto policy and have read about how this is not the way to go.  Plus, whenever I talk to them (Liberty Mutual) their coverage changes depending who answers the phone.

Thanks!  Feels nice to not be hiding in the wings!

Tweetie, glad to see you finally.  I wondered who that was in the shadows, LOL.   Tim's website actually does give you just about the best resources of all, and you can adjust his list to suit your own needs.   Everyone has their own priorities, my friend NightOwl can't camp without a melon baller, just in case she needs to make a nice dessert.   (Sorry, Diva, just had to throw that in.)  Tim mentions wineglasses.  As for myself, how would we get into the pork and beans if I forgot the can opener?
Traveling with little ones makes for special challenges, but for babies, there's no way to get around it.  Anything you need at home, you will pretty well need camping too.   Using disposable wipes will cut down on the amount of water and laundry you need to have to keep baby clean and comfy, and if you use the bottles with the little bags in them you won't have to worry as much about washing them.   Maybe a sheet of fine mesh clipped over a folding playpen or crib would make a fine bed or play place free from bugs.
For the most part, just use your own common sense about what you really need, it always turns out that we bring way more stuff than we ever use.  This is a time to relax and enjoy yourself, don't stress about whether you have the "right stuff".

I have a really comprehensive checklist (and have a 3 y/o too :)) that I can e-mail to you if you'd like.  I'm getting ready to go camping this morning and will be back home on Monday.  If you e-mail me with your e-mail address, I can forward my checklist to you and you can modify it to suit your needs.

There are a number of lists around, Tim's being a good one.  One thing I love having along are Clorox or Mr. Clean wipes.  They're great for wiping down the camper table, table cloth, etc to get rid of germs.  Do you have a porta-potty?  Those are great for younger ones.  Remember towels, swimwear if near a beach/pool, sunscreen, bug spray, dishes, pots & pans, sliverware - all that kitchen stuff.  I almost always have more than one roll of paper towels, my kids just seem to spill something at least once :)   Toys or games are also a necessity with younger ones.

Hope this helps, welcome.

There's a pretty extensive list here: http://www.magma.ca/~pnh/  Click on the "Camping Checklist" page.

We used Tim5055's checklist when we outfitted out PU and it was wonderful.  Granted, you have to adjust for what you KNOW you will need, especially for the kids, but it was a great help to us.

The one thing we forgot on our first trip was a hammer to pound the stakes for the awning in with.

We found it's easier to leave as much stuff in the pu as possible so there's not a lot of packing to do, we can be packed and out in around an hour.

Hope this helps,

Tena

Thanks for everyone's help.  I printed all the lists and will combine to make my own.  As I said before, I have been in birthday party mode all week and couldn't even begin to think about what all I need to pack.  This board has been so helpful since we started camping.  Seems like each trip we make I come home and look up about a problem we encountered or a question we had and sure enough, the answers are here.  Even the campground where we are spending next week was recommended by someone here.   Thanks again!

I'm not a lurker -- I'm new to PU camping.  I found a very comprehensive set of checklists here.  On the left side of the page, click on Check Lists -- they have eight separate list for all aspects of the trip.

Welcome to PUT.  What PU do you have?:)

I bought an old Coleman PU from a neighbor, who bought a bigger, non-PU camper.  He hadn't used it much in the last several years and didnt keep any records.  We think it's a 1996!

And, wow!  I just saw how many posts you've made!
