I had a really nice lunch today with my little guy and just had to share....

Today Noah and I stopped to grab a bite to eat.  When we were being shown to the table ( Woody's bar-b-que) I asked him if he wanted to sit across from me or next to me. I asked him which he preferred because I know to kids it always seems like they are being told what to do, hardly ever asked what they want.  So Noah said he wanted to sit next to me.  I was all smiles.  He's getting big so fast but still my little guy.

We sat down, ordered and went to work coloring the placemat.  Little did he know that he was going to be getting an art lesson.  I started coloring the flowers with red.... his choice.  I colored lightly, then handed him the yellow crayon and told him to try coloring over my red flower to see what happened.  "Wow!  Orange!" Noah exclaimed.  He's grinning away at me, amazed, like I am some wonderful magician or something!  Hehe!  We spent the next 5 minutes experimenting with colors.

Our food arrived a short time later.  We were both munching away on our fries, swirling them in gobs of ketchup.

I looked over at him.  Boy he's a gorgeous little kid.  I stopped eating for a minute and just sat watching him.  His hair is so blond it's almost white, he's got the biggest brown eyes and the cutest little dimple in his left cheek when he smiles, which he does A LOT!  All of a sudden I said to him: "You are the cutest little thing I ever saw!"  Noah said, "Thank you Momma, that's a nice thing to say!" He goes back to snacking on his fries, twirling them around on his plate in the ketchup, oblivious to me just sitting there staring at him.

I couldn't hold back any longer... I leaned over to him, whispered in my scary mommy monster voice: "I am going to eat you up!", and started nibbling away on his neck.  He was laughing and squealing like a newborn pig!  What a silly mom!

Next thing I know, the door to the restaurant door opens and a woman walks in with an old man holding her arm to steady himself as they walked together.  Looked like a daughter and her aging father.  The hostess proceeded to show them to their table.  The man stopped when he got to our table while the woman continued on with the hostess to find their table. Noah was nearest the isle and the man bent down to Noah's level and started a conversation:

Man: "Hi there little fella, what's your name?"
Noah: "I'm Noah!" (He looks at me a little nervously to see if it's ok with me that he's talking to a stranger.  I nodded my OK.)
Man:  "That's a great name!  How old are you Mr. Noah?"
Noah holds up 4 fingers.
Man:  "How many is that?"
Noah: counts his fingers and proclaims proudly "Four!"
Man:   "That's right!  Boy... You are the cutest thing I ever saw!"
Noah looks at me, all wide-eyed, mouth hanging open in disbelief.  Not one minute before, I had said the exact same thing!
Man:  "You are so cute, why... I could eat you right up!"

Oh wow... now even I was sitting there with my mouth hanging open!  Noah looks at me, throws his arms around my neck, hugs me tight and whispers in my ear: "How did he doooo that?"  We both started giggling like crazy!

At that moment, the woman walked back to find her wayward dad and whisked him away.

Boy, that was a moment I'll never forget.

Cindy, what an awesome story!  You sound like a good Mom!  It's so good when, as parents, we can see these wonderful memories happening right in front of us and realise it!

Ok, I don't normally get teary eyed, being a big gruff man and all, but I'm sitting here at work reading your story and all I can think about is my three little men (and their little sister) at home.  I've got a strong urge to tousle their hair and give them bear hugs, yet I have to wait until I get home.  Bummer.

Yep...brought a tear to my eye too.. LOL...and my "adorable kid"..who use to have white blonde hair and green eyes is now 24 years old with dark blonde hair and 6'5" tall!   I am very lucky right now though that when he isn't away at school he works as a computer engineer in the same office I do. I still get to have lunch with him several times a week. And although, he will still give his mom a hug, still comes by my office every morning when he gets to work and says hello, still tells me he loves me and gives me a hug when he leaves every day...when given his choice of seats in a restaurant it's gonna be the one where he can check out any female who comes in!  hehehe...  Just wait until that little cutie gets ALL the attention in the restaurant. Waitresses will come up to the table and ask him if he needs anything else....bring him another drink and my DH and I can just be sitting there....Duh...we'd like one too!  LOL

Oh Cindy...and everyone else....enjoy those days...they pass soooooo quickly.  It is exciting to see the grownups they become, but you will miss those innocent days too. :>

Treasure these moments... they go by so fast.  I wish I still had those times.

We have to  learn to treasure every second we spend with loved ones. It is not only years which can take them away. Just a few pictures might be all that is left to look overnight :(
