Hi Everyone,
We had a really good time up in Mackinaw. These are some of my
observations of the campground.

Good Points:
It is a very large park with lots of trees. A few nice playgrounds
for the kids and there is a lot to do there. They have an old fire
truck that they gutted out the back of and put in seats. It's called
the Mackinac Mill Creek Fun Dept. They pick up kids and whoever
wants to go for a long ride.

The veiws of the island and bridge are spectaculer here. You can
see the Grand Hotel with binoculars and the bridge is gorgeous at
night. We were in the area near the front so the sites were a
little bigger but not much. A lot of sites (not mine) have some
privacey between them with trees and bushes planted. The bath
houses (at least the one we used) were nice enough with 6 showers
and were cleaned and sanitized twice a day. Check in was very quick
and the staff were extremely friendly. As we left on sunday we had
to bring our trash to the front gate where the dumpsters are.
Someone was there to collect it so you didn't have to leave your car
which made it much more quicker.

Saturday there was live music at the bridge view gazebo between 5
and 9. We didn't go because we were at the casino in St. Ignace.  Plus there were other good points I just can't remember at the moment.

Bad Points:

The fire pits (if you want to call them that) are nothing more than
oil changing pans and are quite small. The wood wouldn't fit very
well. It is a very busy park but in our area it wasen't to bad. In
the full hook up area the sites are so small and crammed together
that alot of the big rigs and TT couldn't use the awnings. Another
bad thing (although not the parks fault) was that in the full hookup
area there were way to many kids just running around freely. I mean
little kids. We came extremely close to hitting a couple of them as
they just ran out in the road in front of the truck. Most parents
were grouped together and not watching them. We couldn't or
wouldn't use the pool because it was over run with kids. Wall to
wall. I didn't see any adults in the pool and only a few sitting
around it. Either the parents weren't there to watch them or the
few adults that were there are very fertile...LOL.

Quiet times were between 10 pm and 9 am. which are not enforced
apparently. The camping cabin near us had a party going on until
well after midnight and was very loud and rowdy.

All in all it really wasen't that bad of a campground if you like
the very crowded conditions it could and does have depending on what
part you are camping in. We enjoyed it but wouldn't stay there more
than a weekend once a year. I'm not bashing this campground, it is
quite nice but it just isn't our type of campground. Others will
find it to be a great place.

And once again reality strips away the thin veneer of advertising!

Thanks Harold, I'm like you in that I prefer a much less crowded camping experience.

Yep..this is why I love these types of reviews. They are real! As Starcraft Dad says, some people really like this type of camping and the review gives all the great points for those who do...but it also tells those of us who can't stand the crowded conditions how it is!  Thanks from us too Harold!  :>

Not my kind of place.  I prefer to avoid the crowds.  Thanks for posting. :)
