Good Morning!

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a brand and/or source for a carrying/storage case for Cast Iron Dutch Ovens?

I have found a couple on line, but they appear to be plastic/vinyl and closed cell foam and I wonder if there is something better as these might promote rust???

Thanks!

I bought mine at the Lodge factory store in Tenn.
Both are canvas outside with double zipper and a plastic type lining.
I clean the inside up as good as I can and I spray it with PAM and wipe the outsdie down to get the coal dust off and put a paper towel in between the lid and base and zip them up..
These are well made and you know it when you buy one.

I've seen the other cases on line also, but have the Lodge bags and happy with them. With the Lodge bags I put my rounder (wood circle from Home Depot) down first, then the lid and then the pot.

Hmmm, Lodge was the first place I checked on-line and I did not see them listed!! I will have to search their site again!
Thanks!

We use a Rival Crock Pot bag. I got it at CVS for $10. It also has a mesh compartment that holds the wisk broom. It works very well and was fairly inexpensive.

We use the same bags that Moose uses.  They are sturdy and well made and we like them very much.  They also have handles to carry them and don't take up any more space than the oven itself.

Thanks everyone!
I thought I'd be able to find one at Kittery Trading Post this weekend but they were out!
I did go back to Lodges' site and found and ordered one.
Thanks again!

What is this?
Where in HD did you find them?
I hadn't thought about the legs punching holes in the bottom of the cases.
I haven't thought about the order of the stuff inside the bag either!!!
I just always place that paper towel in between the pot and lid.

If you go to the lumber section, they have pressboard rounds in various sizes. I think Moose and I have the 11" size. They cost about $1.78 each. In addition to providing a solid bottom to the bag, they also prevent hot dutch ovens from melting plastic tables or vinyl tablecloths. :D What a bargain!!

I go one step further than Moose, mostly because I'm lazy and want to carry as few bafgs as possible. If I'm taking both my 10 and 12 inch ovens, I'll put the rounder on the bottom, then the 12" lid, then the 12" oven, then the 10" oven inside that and finally the the lid on top. My bag easily zips over all of that, and while it's heavy, it works well for me. But then, like I said...I'm pretty lazy.:o

Finally the truth comes out.:!

Same here. We love ours. Keeps it from getting dings in the seasoning.

OC Campers--if you were here when we had the old PUT board, you wouldnt have made that remark to Lori. And  I bet byrdr1  remembers at least  some of this--a whole bunch of us (me included, blush, blush) used to make threads about Dutch Ovens and cast iron that went on for pages while we debated the merits of  various brands, the  BEST way to season cast iron,  what kind of fire to use under one, the diference between a Dutch Oven and a Camp Oven.  And we  frequently  declared  in LARGE LETTERS that you must never cook cornbread in anything but a cast irol skillet, etc etc, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

AT THE TIME, WE ALL REGARDED DUTCH OVENS not just as a mere "life style" BUT AS ACTUAL  LIFE!!
