Dh stopped at Wally World the other night to pick up a couple things. I asked him to please get some algae treatment for the pool.  Apparently he had trouble locating the swimming pool supplies because they had been moved to make room for the CHRISTMAS STUFF!  Oh man... not already!

CAPEd CODger

It is after Labor Day, and that's when the pools "officially" close down.

But I have to agree, it's WAY TOO early to even THINK about Christmas.

Ahh, commercialism at it's best.

Yup...I was in our local Wally World the other day and saw some Christmas decorations in the "seasonal" section next to the Halloween costumes! Sheesh!

DONT COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS! ;)  (It is downright UnAmerican :(

How else will we know what time of year it is unless the stores stock their shelves in a timely fashion as follows?

January marks the arrival of  Patio Furniture and cruisewear
If you see bathing suits in stores, you know it is February.
March 1 gas grills and giant "market" umbrellas take up half the store
JUly 1,  winter coats appear   and gas grills go on clearance. Umbrellas, too.
July 3, school supplies  clog  the aisles.
August 20, Hallowe'en candies are on the shelves.
August 22, Hallowe'en things must move over to make room for Christmas stuff.
Dec 26, Valentines Cards  fill the racks.
January 2, Marshmallow Peeps appear in the candy aisle--time for Easter preparations.

The thing that kills me is that I desperately needed some new shorts.  I can't find them ANYWHERE!  All I find on the racks now are corduroys!  For Pete's Sake!  I live in FLORIDA!!!  Who in Florida ever wears corduroy?  I wear shorts and go barefoot year round now.  Ok, Maybe those crazy folk that wear quilted fleece jackets and woolen hats when it hits 50 those two days in February buy corduroy.  But I think that's a pretty slim market.

Cindy check the clearence racks, I just bought 5 pairs of shorts all for under $10.00 a set. Also hang on to the corduroys, this is North Florida and we have clocked a few freezes and some snowfall over time, although they don't last for days on end like up north, the cold can linger long enough to ruin the liners on pools and destroy some beautiful plants as well as motor blocks on vehicles (learned that one the hard way). The only nice thing about it is, it is just a few weeks here and there from Dec-April, Yup I said April. For some reason we had a freeze here one April that killed our palms.

I know you are a Rookie down here, I'll help guide you when I can. By the way this is the worse hurricaine season in about 40 years, I was told by the oldtimers here to expect a snow soon, the snow seems to follow hurricaines :frosty: :eyecrazy: . I've been here 20 years and I'll have to confer with DH on that over 40 stuff;) .

Oh and the pool supplies are hidden behind what is left of the grills and charcoal next to the garden area on the inside of the store. Don't ask me why:confused: .

BTW since my surgery, I can't drive until after the 30th of this month, so lunch will have to be scheduled after then.

Kind regards,

Brenda

Hay Brenda~
I already checked all the racks at Target, Walmart and K-mart.  Anything better than those stores is out of my price range!

Actually I do have some cords.  We have been here a full year now so I know it gets chilly here.  But usually that is in the morning and by mid day it's quite comfy.  I certainly don't wear my warm clothes enough to wear them out quickly!

Last fall when the pool was being built, I planted a lot of stuff.  We did lose a couple plants that I knew were risky for this zone.  Some planting guides call us an 8, some a 9.  I know a couple plams that I planted will have to be wrapped with -xmas light when we have frost warnings.

I have heard recently by some that we are due for snow!  I know the neighbors little girl is 10 and has never seen it here so maybe with the wacky weather lately there is a chance.

Definitely looking forward to lunch.  Near you?  I hear there is a great authentic Mexican place closer to me.  I hope I get my sense of taste back before then!
I don't know about you but I am going stir crazy with cabin fever.  And I am supposed to do nothing for another week.  I tried to get DH to stop at the hardware store for some screws to hang a shelf and he said "No way!  You aren't supposed to do anything!" He picks now to start listening. Sigh ~ C

Well, I'm in frosty MI so maybe that makes a difference, but the other day I was in Walmart too, and was looking for a few womens t-shirts, to wear with jeans.  There were none!   Do people stop wearing t-shirts too, when the summer season is over??  I think not!   What's up with that??!!

My cousin and I used to take our annual trip to Myrtle Beach, SC, in mid to late September. That meant I was usually shopping for bathing suits, beachwear, etc., in August. Ha! Silly me, trying to buy warm weather stuff in the summer time!   Usually all I could find were winter coats and sweaters!

Even if the stores are air-conditioned, just looking at all those warm, fuzzy things when it was in the 80s and 90s outside would make me sweat. Couldn't even imagine trying them on! (Ditto trying on swimsuits, etc., in February!  :screwy: )
