Turkey 'may drop adultery ban'

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/europe/09/14/turkey.adultery/index.html

According to the Turkish press they already did, as the E.U. said tough if you if you pass it .... which century are they living in ? Was it ever a criminal offence in USA ?

NightOwl

Well,  Birol, I think so, but it isnt called "adultery" now.  Several of the states still have, IIRC, laws on their books against "fornication." (Although rarely enforced.)  And the definition of "fornication"  is  having sex with ANYONE  you are not  legally married to.  There was a case not too many years ago where this was the "hook" they used for arresting someone they couldnt put in jail for a more serious crime (insufficient evidence) they knew he was guilty of, so prosecuted him on this charge.

They still stone women for this in some remote places.  (ONLY women, of course.)  ( BTW, did you ever see the movie Zorba The Greek?)

Well, of course ONLY WOMEN! Men would NEVER do such a horrible thing! Women get hopped up on bon bons, while watching Oprah give away hundreds of cars, and decide to cause us more pain & suffering by running off with the mailman. Stone them all I say! (Except for the ones with a lot of money and the ones who can cook).  ;)

NightOwl

Al,  :screwy:

although come to think of it, we have had a couple of cute mailmen through the years :#

and I actually KNOW  a woman ( a neighbor) who ran off with her mailman (both married to other people at the time.) :yikes:

mowalker

Do the women wear blue dresses?

Just kidding!  Maybe a Blue Burka?

OKAY!  Kidding again!

I fail to find in the ruling why it's okay for some, but not all can not be charged?  Very poorly written piece of legal garble.  My paralegal says it does NOT protect women.

It protects no one ! Just makes it illegal, and same piece of legislation also prohibits anyone under the age of 18 to do "it". It becomes completely illegal .... I am glad this ordeal is behind them .... for the time being that is ....

We gotta remember how good we have it over here ..... Look at the stuff people have to go through ..

:eyecrazy:   Charlie and Al--what with "getting stoned" and "hopped up on bon bons" it amazes me that any woman has  time  (or energy) for--er, extra-curricular activites of the kind which might get her in trouble with the Turkish authorities.   :#

I must say, the phrase "hopped up on bon bons"  is a novel one, Al.  Very imaginative and for some reason strikes me as hilariously funny--(maybe I've been eating too many bon bons lately?).     :D

NightOwl

Birol, it occurs to me that you may feel by now that a better name for this   thread might have been " WHAT WAS I THINKING???"   I am sure you will think more carefully before you offer a subject like this for discussion again as  it seems to have gone astray from your original topic ;)

It seems to be a magnet for some very wacky people and some really wacko posts from them, and   OF COURSE, I (MOI) am NOT one of "them"

PS--I never got hopped up on bon bons--margaritas, :sombraro:  maybe,

but never on bon bons    :-()  :-()  :-()

as for "stoned" :D   well, I plead the fifth amendment---is that the one where your attorney tells you to  say, "I can't remember."?:#

wiininkwe

I'm not sure that pleading short term memory loss is gonna be real effective in trying to deny any involvment with bon bons.
