My poor dad...he's 74 and in pretty good shape but I've noticed he's slowing down a bit.  We were suppose to take the kids out apple picking today, but dad stopped by to see how my husband was doing on our forever unending addition.  So he and hubby went outside to admire the new roof and there was a stack of lumber behind them.  Dad knew it was there, he even put his coffee cup on it, but when DH moved away, dad started to back up to look up at the roof again and went flying over the lumber and OUCH did something not good to his knee.  Dad being dad insisted he was ok if we could just help him over to our swing.  I ran and got an ice pack and wrapped it around his knee.  After about 20 minutes I knew this wasn't going to "calm" down as he said, so we got him into my car off we went to spend the rest of the morning/afternoon in the ER!  Unfortunately we found out he tore his right meniscus ligament.  So they put an immobilizer brace on him, fed him some painkillers and got him some crutches and I brought him home to my mom who had no idea what had happened, so she got all upset. So then I had to calm her down that he'd be ok and had to see an ortho doc this week and to just take it easy for a few days till then and keep his brace on and use the crutches.  Dad's stubborn, he'll try to not use them!!

Luckily he wasn't more seriously hurt...but I feel bad for the kids because we'd had this day planned at the orchard for awhile and made sure both DH and I took today off to spend the entire day with them.  They are of course happy grampy is ok but well you know how it goes!!  My life is Murphys Law!!

Seems like a day for accidents....Glad your dad wasn't too seriously hurt.

Our son is 4 years old and has never had more than a tiny scratch.  I can't eve remember him even crying over a boo boo of any sort.  Well, today that changes.  DH and I were bust working on putting the last touches on a samll brick patio area for our grill.  (Got the bricks for free from a FreeCycle member!  Love that board!)

As we were working, the 3 kids were sitting on the chaise lounges over near the pool.  We could see thenm from where we were.  Don't worry.... it's not a pool accident!  The baby fence was up and the kids were just hanging out.  The girls were doodling on paper and DS had his big metal Tonka dump truck.

The next thing I knew I heard a whooosh, BANG, Thud!  I knew just what it was and started running just as the screams started.  My heart lept into my throat!  Never heard my sweet boy make that sound before and my heart ached to hear it.

The little guy had stood in the bed of the dump truck and it rolled out from underneath him promptly dumping his sweet face on the concrete pool decking.   Now he looks like Donald Duck.  Two fat lips, a bloody nose, scrapes and bruises on his nose and a lump above his eyebrow.  Poor guy.  Looks like a whole different kid now.  A few minutes with a cold compress and he was back to his cheery old self.  Not too worse for wear.

Check out the pic.  Noah Destin is what he normally looks like!

Ouch, poor little guy...there's nothing worse than seeing the kids with blood on them and face or head cuts bleed alot more than what the actual damage is, so it's really scary.   My little guy cut his head a few tears ago and I thought I'd pass out when I saw the blood coming down his forehead...got to ER and doc said it wouldn't even need a stitch, which is where I learned head cuts bleed a lot more than what the actual damage is.  Sure enough they wiped him up and put a bandage on him and that was it...luckily!!
