Quote from: bearbaitIn my search for anti-freeze I have been unable to find any on the store shelves yet so that I can winterize my camper while I camp this coming weekend. If I camp after this, it will be without water of course, but I don't want to let that go for too long and then forget to do it either. I'm just going to run it through the lines right before I pop down and it will be all done with.

Anyway, What I wanted to know is what the going price is for RV anti-freeze around the country this year. It was around $4.00 or so last year when I bought it if I remember correctly, but along with everything else, I'm sure it has went up again this year. I'm sure that the retailers also price gouge it this time of year, just because of the demand. I often wondered if I would be better off buying it at the beggining of the season when demand is low just to get it off the retailers shelves? Any thoughts on this?
I saw it at WalMart for $3.50/gallon I think. I know I saw it, not sure of the price though.

I saw it at the Hershey Kmart yesterday.  Don't know how much it was, do you want me to pick some up for you and bring it this weekend?

tlhdoc

Lee they have it where I live.  I think it is around $2.50 a gallon.

Walmart has it in the automotive section.....2gal for $5.00

Gone-Camping

I saw some this evening at Wal-Mart in the RV supply section for $2.50 per gallon...

Sounds like I'm going to have to go against everyone of my principles and go to Wal Mart to buy this stuff.  I hate that store and everything they stand for with a passion,  anyone have another alternative?

tlhdoc

An RV store and pay $4.00 per gallon. :D

bearbait

LOL@Tracy...but at least that extra 1.50 goes toward their healthcare benefits and I don't end up paying 5 extra dollars at the end of the year in federal income tax to bail out some heatlthcare facility that didn't get paid because so many people used the system without health insurance at all.  Leaving me to pay the bill.......

(this is not a political post,  it's my own personal observation and conviction,  your each entitled to your own)

HersheyGirl

Well I love shopping at Walmart and will gladly pick up some antifreeze for you.
I will probably be going there today to fill up the Moose with gas and do a little shopping.:)

This is my opinion.
They stand for FREE ENTERPRISE
If you can't compete with them, then don't.
But don't blame them for using the system that we treasure.

Not a political statement:p

bearbait

Is that "abusing" the system Chas?  That would make sense:)

I just can't justify the $7.50 that that $2.50 anti-freeze is going to cost me.

(This is not a political statement either!)

Kelly

Um, Bearbait??

Why not let Tracy or Beckie get some for you and then "forget" to pay them back?  That way none of your hard-earned money goes to that place.  (The name of which I can't even type!)

(I am not political in any way shape or form)

We've given up on using the RV Anti-Freeze stuff.  It never gets out of the lines enough for us.  We bought an RV blow-out plug, I think from the PU Times store here.  We just use either a low pressure air compressor or the bicycle pump.  We did that last year & it worked like a charm!  And, you don't have to buy a new one each year, don't have to go to Wally World, etc.....

You know,  this option is making more and more sense to me.  My only real concern would be the water pump and having water settling in there.  My pump is under the dinnette and hard to get too,  I have always wanted to move it to the cabinet where the electric cord goes in from outside.  I wonder how feasible it would be to move the location of it first of all,  then add a bypass kit using Pex tubing shut off valves similar to the bypass kit for the a water heater?

The only issue then would be being able to drain the water pump itself I suppose.  Now your going to make me go open up the camper and take a look at this possibility aren't you?  :)
