I have recently bought a pop-up and have enjoyed it greatly with my children.  I am a single mom with a 7 year old girl and a 5 year old boy.

Anyone in south Louisiana or anywhere in a couple hour drive from the New Orleans are with kids these ages that we could get together camping.  My circle of friends do not camp.

Look forward to hearing from someone.

I'm from New York and my kids are older, but I'll throw a suggestion out there to you. TAKE some of your circle of non-camping friends out camping and let them see how much fun it can be. I would bet you'd get more than a few of them hooked! :#

If you camp close to your home area, you're bound to find other folks with kids about the same age as yours. When we moved a few years ago, we went camping that summer and my daughter met another little girl that would be attending the same school in the fall. Much to my daughter's delight, they ended up in the same homeroom!

So keep an eye out while camping and you are bound to find folks to camp with! :)

Welcome marydell!

I'd go camping with you, but you're a little far away!

There are definitely some challenges camping alone with your kids and I think you're definitely on the right track.  I've found a couple other families here that I camp with and it sure lightens the load for all of us.

I agree with Kathy ~ keep your eyes open.  Took me 3 camping seasons to find the right group.  But it's been oh-so-worth the wait!

Email me if you have any questions.  Always glad to help.

Let's go Camping!

marydell, we have another member here CajunCamper (see his listing on the members list for e-mail addy, etc) and  if he is not in southern  LA (I cannot quite remember his exact location)  I bet he still might be able to give you a heads-up on someone he knows who camps or even a group of campers near you.

He is a kind,  lovely person and LOVES to camp as does his whole family.  Not long ago they lost theirdear little son to leukemia and we have shared his heartache and loss.

I think he would be happy to be of help to you if you e-mailed or "pm'd" him (private message) him.

Welcome!  And CONGRATULATIONS on becoming a camping mama--we have had several others just like you  at PUT and they are always warmly welcomed and encouraged and  enthusiastically helped with advice and info.

Be sure to go to our "general forum" and ask ANY camping related questions you want--there are lots of  people there with about a thousand years of accumulated, combined camping experience.

And dont be concerned about how simple or basic your questions are--giving the answers always gives members a good chance to show off  and they love it! :#
